One week to take pictures of your horses!

Well, I absolutely loved livaward's "win something" idea. (And I'm tickled I won :p.)

Anyways...new game...slightly different rules.

You have one week to beautify your horses, take pictures and post them. (If you don't have your own horse, beautify the one you ride.)
Yes, they have to be new pictures. I don't care how you beautify them, but it has to be visible that there was some effort to make the horse look good, and no cheating - no old pictures.
Week from today everyone will be able to vote for the best picture. (You cannot vote for your own horse.)
The winner gets a woodburning of her/his horse, or any other animal if you prefer - dog, cat, goat, pig...whatever you wish. :)

It's just supposed to rain all week here and my farrier who was supposed to come today canceled and isn't coming until Saturday now and her hooves look terrible. She's not overdue for a trim (right on shedule actually) but her hooves are chipped up and don't look so good.

There was a break in the rain so I decided to go out and get Beauty all bootieful and take some pictures. Of course the flies were TERRIBLE even though I used a freaking ton of fly spray on her and she kept stomping and jumping around, making it very difficult for the hair and make-up artist to do her job. *sigh* :rolleyes: And she kept flinging off her tiera.:doh: Some horses just have no appriciation!:mad: lol, jk.:p

How many pics are we allowed to post? I guess I'll just pick my favorites and post them, and if it's too many I'll delete a couple later, k?

Ok, here's Beauty's entry. If it's too many pics just tell me, I wasn't sure how many are allowed.:) These are my favorites (I took a LOT, lol.:p) Please ignore the flies that are in some of the pics.:rolleyes: Couldn't be helped.

I groomed her from head to toe (she promptly rolled afterward), braided her mane (with pink ribbons of course, until I ran out and had to use two white ones to finnish), put glitter on her nose (which is now all over my hands, arms, face, clothes, and camera:innocent:), had a tiera on her head (until she flung it off so I put her fly bonnet on instead:rolleyes:), and she proudly wore the mane clip and rhythm beads made by Chy (Country Girl's daughter).:)

I don't have enough time. Her mane and tail are so thick I can't even get the curry comb through it. Her feet. Farrier was supposed to be here but had an emergency his wife is in the hospital so now it could be another 2 weeks before he gets here. I don't trust Cinnamon with anyone else but him.

I too have lots of older pretty pictures of her that would have been way easier to enter instead of going out today and fighting a swarm of flies and my head swinging, tiera flinging, hoof stomping horse.:rolleyes: But then what fun would that be?:p;)

This is off topic but why don't you trust her with anyone else? I think anything would be better than making her go another 2 weeks on those feet. . .

She is known as a kicker. She doesn't like yelling. Jerry has always been the one to work on her and he is easy with her. I might round her hooves off with my rasp as best as I can. I don't want someone hurt by this mare. Jerry has been here since I have had this mare. He knows how she is and works well with her and if she goes to try to kick we puts her foot back down and lets her cool off a bit.

I had another farrier but Cinnamon didn't like him at all. He couldn't even touch her. When I hired Jerry he came out on days he wasn't shoeing and helped me with her so that she got use to him and at no charge to me. That is why I would rather wait for him to come out to do her.

You brush her mane and tail with a curry comb? Try regular comb like you brush your hair with and WD40 if it's too tangled.

And I agree with EW I'd call a different farrier. I wouldn't wait another 2 weeks. Her feet were already in a bad shape when you got her back. You said she was already sore than. Adding 3 more weeks to that, she may end up pretty lame.

I'd send her to a trainer. You aren't doing her any favors by letting her make you think she's acting that way because she's been abused. Consistent, firm training would make her a happier horsey citizen in the world of humans.

On edit, I'm sorry Petra! I'll stop griping and let this thread get back on topic!! I'm going to try and get pictures of Sunny all beautified this week. She is the only one of my horses I rarely take pictures of so this contest will be fun to fix that!

Try to get a spray bottle with water in it and start as far away from her as you can without her freaking out too bad. Than keep comming closer. Take your time. She will get used to it. It may take days but eventually she will realize it's not hurting her.
It will make your life much easier. How will you spray her for flies? It's hard for the farrier to do her hooves without it; especially with as many flies as you have.
Also if she gets injured you may need to spray the wound. It is something I'd really work on.
My Crystal and Harley thought the spray bottle is going to eat them too. Both of them completelly lost it the first few times. It took some time and patience, but they both stand still for me now.

My guy shows his whites and dances all over when I spray him...he still gets sprayed because that's part of horse life in my barn. Period. I think this mare has your number and while you love her I think it may be a bit of a crutch. She acts the way she does because people let her get away with it.

Irisgreen has a great thread on desensitizing her Matty to being sprayed. You should look it up.

I have restored it and hope to one day ride Cutter in it. I just need to have a little bit more leather cut off of the belt. It is too wide for the buckle. Once that is done I plan on maybe training Cutter for sidesaddle.

Thank you. Beauty is a girly kind of horse and I love pink, so it worked for her.:) I almost went purple, but at the last second changed my mind and went pink.

Kota is red and blue, more red now than blue though.

I think the navy blue pad will be perfect with your royal blue saddle bags and black tack. Myst will look great.:)

Bathed Penny and Sunny today, Penny isn't fat enough yet, still needs at least 100lbs before she can enter any beauty contests. Sunny, was less then amused at her tubby time.

Then I humiliated her by braiding and putting flowers in her mane. UGH! Us silly humans! My sister and I worked on getting her to park out, we've had her 8 or 9 yrs now and haven't asked it of her even though she was trained to park out, so if was HI-LARIOUS, if you look carefully in the photos she has her lower lips curled back, that is her, "I'm so annoyed I want to bite you", face. But she won't bite haha

So here is Ms. Sunshine Destiny in all her 20 something glory! the Greatest pony in the world! Our own personal punk-a-dilla!!! (I'm a little biased about my Sunny Pony)

Well I just did Caddo but don't have no pics of him. Trimmed around his muzzle and sprayed him down with Miracle groom in a bath. He did awesome. I also trimmed his bridle path. I might get some pics tonight of him.

She is a pony likes likes to have a job and since both kids have out grown her she get's bored. She's the only one that get's to roam the yard and graze, so she knows she is the (wo) MAN! haha

So I didn't give Jesse a bath today, but I did clean him up really nicely and braided his hair. He is the only horse I know that doesn't roll right after a bath anyways. He is always so clean! Unfortunately dad wouldn't let me use his camera so I used mine, which is not very good. Anyways, without further ado, Jesse.

I could not post a video of me giving bath - the ground gets really muddy. At the end I always move the horse on the grass and do the legs last. When we are done the horse is much cleaner than I am. I always end up all wet and muddy, lol.
