Has anyone here shipped a saddle or something similar in size before? I may be selling my saddle and am wondering about how much it would be to ship it. Obviously we'd go with the cheapest route possible, ground. Just wondering if anyone knows about how much it would cost, whats the best way to send it, packing tips, etc.

If it helps, its a Wintec 500 18"

I can't recall what state they went to, but I've shipped two saddles before and both cost around $26.00. I think they went Parcel Post, with insurrance. Both were western saddles, around 20-25 lbs each. I just found a really big box, used a ton of tape to make sure it would stay shut and sent it on its way.:innocent:

Don't know if that helps any, but it may give you a basic idea.:)

I always ship saddles Priority Mail through USPS and it is always around $30ish, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I normally ship with accessories, too, so that adds weight. I don't think it's too bad. You can also go on eBay, type in Wintec 500 and check to see what the sellers are charging for shipping costs. =) Or go to USPS/UPS/etc. website, I think they normally have a shipping calculator.

One big factor will be if you have a box or not! If you already have the box, the shipping should be in the $20 range. If you have to buy a box from the shipper... it can get really expensive!

Hmmm, I'll have to see if theres a box somewhere around here.

Thanks for your help all. That actually isn't bad at all, I was expecting in $45 or so.

My 15" seat Martha Josey barrel saddle came from Oregon, we're in PA. It cost $65. to ship via UPS. That was fast shipping plus she didn't have a box big enough so they packed at the UPS place. They did a wonerful job, it arrived on time and in perfect shape.
