I want to bid on an item that's in the UK on eBay, but I am not sure how that works exactly since the currencies are different...anybody want to explain? Or can I not do this? Lol, sorry if I'm not making sense...xD

If you pay through PayPal it shouldn't be a problem. Is it priced in US Dollars?

No, GBP, but it says it ships to the U.S....which is what confused me.

Ooooo, well then that about doubles the price. I don't know what the conversion rate is, but it's pretty steep.

I converted it, it's not too bad. It actually has what the U.S. amount is under where the price is. If I pay through PayPal, though, it will do all the converting stuff for me...?

I found a currency converter and it says this...
1.00 GBP
=
1.56615 USD
United Kingdom Pounds United States Dollars 1 GBP = 1.56615 USD 1 USD = 0.638509 GBP

I think it will, but if you've got your PayPal account linked to a credit card instead of to your bank account then it may just charge your card in GBP, which might cause you to be charged a conversion fee by your credit card company. I found that out the hard way when I charged something in Cancun. I'd check into it with PayPal and your Credit card company too, don't take my word for it.

Hey, I just found this on the PayPal site...
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/sell/mc/mc_send-outside
It sounds like they convert it for you.
But it also sounds like they may hit you with a 2.5% fee for doing it...
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside
Not sure about that though.

Thank you so much FIAB for looking that up for me, I was trying to, but no luck. =P
I am a natural blonde so excuse me for this dumb question xD, but would it be 2.5% of the price I am paying for the item (in addition to the item's cost of course)?

I think so. So for instance, if your item cost 100 GBP, then it'd be $157 USD, plus $2.50 for the currency conversion. IF they charge you a conversion fee.
Or at least that's MY take on it.

Oo ok, well that's not terrible. I mean, I would rather not pay an additional fee, but the item I am looking at is only $80 USD so it would be even less than that..

Well, better to expect a fee and possibly not get charged it than to find out about it after the fact when you can't change your mind.

You'll have to let me know how it works out with the fees and all. I've never bought anything priced in a foreign currency either.

Cloe - you might get stung on import tax :(. After I bought my Converses from the US (nowhere in the UK has them) I got charged £10 import tax!
It might not happen to you, but if a package is over a certain size they could try and charge you extra :). Good luck!
