I've noticed a lot of fitness/losing weight/getting in shape threads around this forum lately, so I thounght I would start a thread where we list fun ways to exercise!

I've been wanting to get in better shape (gaining muscle, not necessarily losing weight), but I'm one of those people that won't work out if it isn't fun :p

I just bought a hoola hoop, and I love it! It's fun, and it works your core and gets your heart rate up (well, mine at least ;)) in a short amount of time. I even got one that is filled with water so it's more difficult... I'm still getting the hang of it and can't go more than a few seconds! Also, I've found out I can hoola hoop to one direction, but not the other. Weird...

Horseback riding is another fun way to get exercise! And a tough lesson can definitely be a good work out.

Personally, I love to run so that's a fun one for me, but I know a lot of people don't like running.

Anyone else have any fun workout ideas?

Wii Fit! Well, if you have a Wii to begin with, lol. I started my whole exercise kick with it. It can really be good for free exercise, with stuff from hula hooping (sans the hoop) to yoga. The only problem I have with it is that the poses are shown to you, but no one is there to actually tell you if you're doing it right. So if you need someone real guiding you it won't work.

Barn work is a good exercise, and I love it!

Zumba is supposed to be really fun, but I haven't tried it yet. I like cardio kickboxing a lot, havent done it in a while though. I like step too.

Might just have to try this hula hoop thing - Equine_Woman does it too and really seems to enjoy it!

Fun fitness ideas (my girlfriends and I try to get together once a month and do something active):
Rock climbing
Snowshoeing
Hiking
Tennis
Water aerobics
Kayaking
Biking

I'm liking these ideas :) Although, lovesfortune, I think I would have to get in shape before I tried the rockclimbing :p
I've heard a lot of good things about the Wii fit, but unfortunately I don't have a Wii.

I've also heard that using a punching bag is a good way to work out, and a big stress reliever.

They actually make fitness hoops. (And the ones with water are actually easier to use because once you get them going the water does most of the work)

I work out with hoops 5 out of 7 days a week (sometimes 7 days a week) I use some of the hoopnotica workout tapes for hoop dancing. Great stuff. I use it while I'm riding as well to stretch!

Well see that's the problem... I can't get it going for more than a few seconds. Haha.
I didn't know there were actual tapes for hula hoop workouts. Intersting :)
And here I was, thinking I was original... :p

I have been thinking of getting a hula hoop. I saw a student using several last year on campus and it looked fun!

When riding there are some thing to try, like dropping stirrups, holding a 2 pont, bareback, posting bareback.

Did you know sex burns like 250 calories and hour ?? Just thought I'd mention.....

You burn more walking for an hour. And you only burn the 250 if you're doing it right. ;)
