I was wondering a if anyone out there had any recipes for home made horse treats. I'd really like to make some and pass out to my "horsey" friends for christmas. I think that along with something else small would make a quick, easy cheap gift for them. :)

Also on the same note as home made horse treats: What is the "self" life on the home made ones?? (Is there one?) I'm assuming it will all depend on what your making with the treats. I got some "homemade" horse treats they were apple pieces covered in carmel & rolled oats... when I went to get them to feed Legend they were moldy! Needless to say I didn't feed them to her... It was only a day later... I'm not making those ~ thats for sure! ha ha. The other ones I had weren't mold at all.

Thanks everyone in advance for the recipes.... (now time to sit back  an wait for the recipes)

Here is a horse treat recipe that I use:

1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 cup flour
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons cornoil
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup molasses

Mix ingredients in a bowl in order listed. make small balls and palce on cookie sheet sprayed with a non-stick spray. Bake 175 C (350 F) for 15 mins or until golden brown. ( I also add other things to them sometimes, like add honey, cinnamon, bananas, apples, peppermints, anything you can think of! they're also edible for humans too, and if you make it with cinnamon and bananas, they're tasty! lol credit to luv2show for that idea)

Mine lasted about a week, then after that I threw the rest out.

I have one at my old website. I don't update the site, as I was building a new one...until WashingtonBay beat me to it.

Okay I looked. The file must be on my other computer. That's a bummer cause it was like an entire book with horse recipes in it!!
