That’s a Harvard University (http://www.nypost.com/t/Harvard_University)study’s estimate of the per-gallon price of the president’s global-warming agenda. And Obama made clear this week that this agenda is a part of his plan for addressing the Gulf mess.

So what does global-warming legislation have to do with the oil spill?
Good question, because such measures wouldn’t do a thing to clean up the oil or fix the problems that led to the leak.

The answer can be found in Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s now-famous words, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste — and what I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.”

He said that in his oil speech, to force us to use alternate energy, make oil too expensive. He's said that before, that the costs of energy has to rise. Too bad so sad.
He doesn't care how much this will hurt most people.

What he fails to understand is that there is no replacement for oil, no matter how expensive he makes it.

You know, they can find out why a plane or space shuttle crashed but no one has any idea why that oil pipe exploded-in 3 spots? Personally, until they do I am going to believe 'someone' wanted that thing to explode.

We've been paying $8.50 (and that's cheap!) for the past 3 years. This varies by exchange rates - we're paying £1.31 - £1.98 a litre.

Prices around here are around $1.00 a litre. If converted to gallons, I think we would probably be around $4.00 a gallon.

When I first started driving 4 years ago, gas prices were similar to what Pinky pays, around $6.00 a gallon.

Yikes. Any idea how much of that is taxes?

From a recent news report, I think it's around 89p - £1 a litre. Our fuel duty is due to rise another 6p by the end of the year, and that doesn't include any rise that might take place in oil prices. Tomorrow, I'll go and get a picture of the fuel prices at the place on my road .

It's so bad that I've decided I'm not going to get a car when I learn to drive because I simply can't afford to run one! Insurance worked out at around £3500 a year (it was a Land Rover ), tax is £170 a year and fuel is stupidly expensive (24mpg if you're lucky).

Wow. I always thought you guys had cheap gas! When the exchange rate was better (for us ;)), it worked out at around $12 - $15 a gallon, but then the pound crashed :p.

I know that people who live near the US border enjoy going across just to get gas. :innocent: I have to agree. It's a little cheaper for us.

Quite simply...we can't! I've got friends from well off families who've had to either get rid of one car or get rid of both so they can afford to stay living where they are. Where I live, £350,000 ($520,000) is considered average/just below average for a regular 3 bedroom house with a largish garden. And I don't even live in a major city!

Less people are learning to drive because it's pointless now. We've got such a good cycle system in place you can bike anywhere.

And I guess I sort of commend you for not going all out with it. :p

Seriously, all partisanship aside, I don't think it's helpful to anything to go the conspiracy route at this early stage. There are some things coming out about procedures that BP may have been handling incorrectly, even with warnings from experts. We really need to let the investigation run its course. It takes the NTSB at least a year to make a ruling in any plane crash, and for good reason.

If there aren't clear answers a year from now, I'd say go ahead and start conjuring up ideas. But even then, it's tough. You can't prove a conspiracy simply by trying to eliminate everything else. You need proof.

So do as you wish, but for your own sake, as credible participants in an argument, I really think you should avoid conspiracy ideas.

The CEO knows as little as anyone else why that happened. Even if that rig was inspected every day there is no way to tell what is going to explode is there?

I made a long road trip today and east of Columbus Ohio
gas was selling for $2.59.9 a gal.

in my local area gas went up to $2.78.9 a couple days ago.

but you have to consider a major holiday is coming up

That doesn't really count for anything. It's just political theatre. Politicians behaving poorly (for the most part).

It makes wonder how narrow minded and unseeing people are? seven dollars a gallon who cares? what about all the other products that are made out of petroleum by products - cloths , shoes, car body parts. airplane fuselage. siding, roofing materials, your bank swipe card, toys, eye glasses, dentures to name a few. what about your warm polar fleece vest or that nice dry gortex rain jacket? the computer your sitting at right now? Is your chair made of plastic parts? most of the money you pay for gas is tax anyway. hundreds of millions of dollars lost, tens of millions of American jobs gone. drill baby drill! and as to conspiracy, don't you find it odd that there are over 3,800 well in the gulf and I don't know how many else where in this country - gas and oil- and coal mines all over: and in how many years no problems of discernible effect. Yet during this administration suddenly wells blow up, both oil and gas coal mines have mysterious explosions, the feds do nothing to aid the folks effected- only snarling and pontificating on those evil foreign companies. The president who's friend an admitted bomber, half the administration staff drawn from the violent and radical SDS ?? AOh what the heck do I know---- let'sall sing; oonn the gooood ship lolly-pop. iit's a nicve trip, into bed you hop. and the candy canes plaayyyyy all the night in pepermint bayyy. :innocent::crazy:
