Ok, So I get paid this Friday, I will get my car fixed with that money, and then on the 9th of July I get paid again. So With that I will pay off Gary and Debbie, and be out of debt. YAY!!!!

Alright, now if I have enough left over to pay one month of board Then I will move chief Back on the 11th or 12th. HOPEFULLY.

SO, here's where I need help...I need to figure out If I want to go back to thunder Ridge Farm, with Debbie and Gary. Where I will have 40 acers to ride on and a small out door arena. But no one to ride with. http://kansascity.craigslist.org/grd/1760447374.html
OR do I want to go to this new place, Osage Oaks where I would have a REALLY big indoor and out door arena and a 4o acer pasture to ride in with Lots of cool stuff like Wash racks and high walled round pens for lunging. And I would have lots of people my age to ride with. http://osageoaks.com/home.html

Thunder ridge-$130
Osage Oaks-$175

I have no Idea witch one to choose. I need your help.
Thiers also Alot of fun shows and stuff at osage oaks but I would have a friend to run to at Thunder ridge if I needed it. thay help with chief so much...check on him and give him attention when ever they can.
I just dont know what to do. I really hope I can get him up here on the 11th that would be so Amazing....

Sweet. See things are starting to come together. I knew you could do it. How steady is your job? That is how I would base your decision on board.

Not bad then now you have to figure out what you want and your intentions with Chief are. If you don't mind riding alone then go with the first one but if you want to try and ride with friends then I would go with the second one.

I would stick with the place that you know. Not only would the board be more expensive at the new place, but there would be costs of keeping up with all the activities.

I would wait to move to a place with more features after I had money saved ahead. Like 6 mos. care and board money for the horse, good start on a car repair fund, future life costs, etc.

He has such a pretty kind face. Good luck on whatever barn you decide on.

Did you only move him to your friends' place when you couldn't keep him somewhere else or has he always been there?

I'm very socially oriented and always loved barns with people to ride with. That being said, I think what Mare said is very wise.

$425 to $465 a month.
A MONTH???? You make less than 500.00 a month and want to take on the responsibilty of a horse? ............Kevin

What about getting his teeth floated? I saw in one of your other threads that he needed to have that done, or has the friend who has him already had that done?

The way I calculate it, if he was 60 miles away (1 hour at 60 mph), and it was all city type driving (your car getting 19 mpg) for $150/month you could visit him approximately 7 times. I know that right now there's the issue of getting your car fixed, and that you might not want to put that many miles on it, but it seems like if you had 7 days you could devote to visiting him and spending quality time with him it would cost as much as paying to board him, where you might be worried about working in order to be able to afford to keep him there, thus not getting to spend as much time with him.

As for which barn, if I'm riding, I like to be riding. I like to go out and spend time with the horses, it never bothered me if I was out with people my own age or not. At 16, I was leading trails by myself and the BO allowed me to do it, even if the people I was riding with were older. It would really depend on what you wanted. But, if you're paying off a debt with one of the BOs now... are they willing to let you come back? You've already shown them that you couldn't pay board once -- though it seems like you're paying them off now, which is good.

What he said.

I would wait to get Chief back. I would save up 6 months board plus some misc expenses like vet, farrier and worming before you do. $450 a month is not much to live on, plus taking care of a horse. I hate to say it but you'll probably just fall back into the same situation and not be able to care for him and have to give him up all over again if you dive into this with only a months board in your pocket.

You won't just be paying board, you'll also need to pay for gas to go visit him, plus farrier expenses, dewormer, teeth floats, vet checkups, vaccinations, tack etc.

Thanks Everyone. I guess I should give you all a little mre details.

To zoel_222 and gabhiann

(just letting you know, not trying to start anything)
I have had chief for 4 years now, I have had the responsibility of a horse for 4 years, maybe not as many as most, but through out that 4 years I have never made more than $500 a month, I have never had trouble caring for him except for paying board. I have a second bank account only for Horse needs, Thier is a LARGE amount of money in thier that I can only use for his health needs not for board. with this money I have gotten his teeth floated and all shots and Vaccinations for this season have been done.

I have never had trouble paying for his health requirments. So just letting you know he has always been taken care uf and always will be.

Over all my fiance pays all the household bills its much easier for him, I am still in Collage and can only work part time, all I have to pay for is Cheif and Gas and some times Groceries.
So $450 a month is just fine for me and Cheif to live off of.
but I did state that I am looking for a secon job so soon I will be making Double that.

I have decided to not only choose between these two places but to look at many others as well. I would really like to have people to ride with...

Except for that one time when you couldn't take care of him and were in debt to the barn and had to give him up...

But if you think you're financially stable now, I know we'd all love to see Chief come home. Best of luck choosing a new barn.

I never had to give him up, he was mine all along he was mearly moved to a new location where I didnt have to pay any board. While he was at this new location I still cared for his health needs. So in no way shape or form was he not being taken care of.
