vet coming today!

After many calls and trouble I finally got my vet scheduled to come out for vaccines on the new mares at my house. Java (the paint we thought of naming Moolah) and my new one Glory (finally picked a name) both need shots and Glory needs a coggins drawn too. I've dewormed both and they were less than happy about it. I hope that's not a sign that they're gonna be bad for the vet. I'm used to my dead head boys standing stock still all the while getting vaccines and blood drawn and examined all over. Cross your fingers that they behave!!

First I have to get my butt to work and then come home for the vet and then go back to work. Better get moving...

Is this spring shots? If so I'm relieved I'm not the only one who put it off this long. My vet also came this week. Hope all goes well. :)

They both did pretty good. Java needed held tight and kinda squashed against a wall and her nose held cause she kept scooting away and throwing her head way up in the air. Yay strong hand muscles from milking cows :-) Glory just stood there. She even got some floating done without any drugs. She's a keeper lol.

It was spring shots for both of them. Late I know but I didn't want to call him out for Java and then call him out again for "new horse" when I didn't know when/what I was getting.

We thought Java was 11-12 range because of the hook on her front teeth (sent a pic to the dentist cause it freaked me out), but the vet said they also get one at 7, so we looked for dips on the underside of their teeth too, and they both had them. So new age estimate for both horses is 7, going on 8 because those dips are almost worn out.

Vet also said with Glory's limited range of motion in that one ankle that she may need bute if/when she gets sore from riding. But that may not happen and he did think trails with mostly walking will be just fine for her.

Java is leaving with Fli in July. Dani and two other girls started an LLC and are going to run the boarding barn down in Greensfelder (state?) Park in Eureka, MO. She's going to use her for trails and maybe fun shows/parades type stuff. So far she hasn't ridden her here. She's been so busy getting the barn stuff started up she's only made it out once since we picked up Java. I've ridden her twice and am more comfortable on her because when Gem was young and goofy he didn't kill me and I was waaaay higher up off the ground lol, so I've got a little more confidence. At the new barn she'll have an arena to ride in and get confident enough to go out on the trails.

Glory is my new "spare" horse. Once she's in good weight and I know how she rides she's going to be for friends to ride when they come visit. So 90% pasture pet 10% trail horse. I like to take people on trail rides :-) and needed an easy horse to do it. I doubt we'll take her this year, but she'll probably also come with us to Eminence, again to be the extra. This year I think we're taking Fli, Dani's new barn is on our way so we'll load her up on our way thru town. I've put several people on Fli who said the last horse they rode bucked them off and took them out on a ride and they loved it. With her moving I needed/wanted another like that.

It's nice to have a more educated guess on how old they are. It kind of explains why Java is more goofy, but lack of miles would do that too.
