american competitive trail horse association is what it is as to why you should do it I dont know, never done it myself. I guess the worst case scenario is you could have fun and learn something............Kevin

What's the worst that could happen?? Oh, I forgot, this is going to be on trails that we ride on all the time, without the ACTHA obstacles.:cowboy:

My friends just did it for the first time. She and three other friends rode together. Then they did obstacles separately. I've heard you can look up obstacles that ACTHA uses and get your horse prepared.

There was an ACTHA ride in every states several weeks ago(many rides in each state actually.) I believe the money raised went to rescues.

Hubby and I will try it in the fall (as long as my arm is OK.) It sounds like fun. Dice is green so I'd have to go just for the experience.

Most of the "trail" rides we go on deserve a blue ribbon for coming back in one piece! So I'm hoping we can survive this adventure. Here's an offer you can't pass up. RocknK will pay the overnight(s) boarding for any Baywindfarm member who shows up for our ride in Martinez, CA @ Hossmoor Stables Aug 21st 2010. Offer limited to the first 25 folks who show up!:cowboy:

How many miles is it from Vegas to you?;) Aww really, I wish that I could go but unfortunately with this car accident thing has really messed me up. My last Docs visit was OUCH!!!!!

As for the ride it's self is pretty cool. It tests you and your horses ability to navigate trails and the natural obstacles presented to you. You will be doing the obstacles solo but usually ride in groups of 10 and the groups head out from the trail head every 15 minutes (or so)

The trails are usually 6-8 miles. On their website there are some of the obstacles but mind you, these change and you will not know of the obstacles until you come upon them the day of your ride:) But it is always nice to practice (ask Chip, he LOVE'S to practice these LOL)

I traveled to AZ to CG's place to do a ride and LOVED it (well maybe not so much the rain LOL)

Again if you get the chance to do it GO FOR IT! It's fun and so simple but so challenging:)

I've done it a few times just driving (like 85mph) & I've barely got energy to gamble once I get there!:p

We have quite a few ACTHA rides here. I started entering them this year and really have a blast. :) I would do more if my truck would get us there :(

go to www.actha.us It has a lot of info on the web site.

I just happen to know the ladies that put on the rides here as well as the Rescue Group the rides sponsor. They are all part of our group down here in AZ.

Both you and your horse are judged in the competition. The difference between the OPEN and the PLEASURE division is usually a cash payout to the OPEN division winners. The Pleasure division winners typically get ribbons. Both divisions get points toward the year end. If you just want to tag along and not do any obstacles, then you can ride in the BUDDY division. No points, no awards and you can not participate in the obstacles.

I have always opted to ride in the Pleasure division. I go for the fun and to expose my horse to more things. Sometimes we do good, other times...well....let's just say at least I had fun. :innocent:

You should at least try it once RocknK. If it's properly run it is a fun time! ;)
