Yogi's leg is healing great and I want to buy him some kind of protection for when I occasionally trailer him. I am between shipping boots and standing wraps. I found these: http://www.sstack.com/horse-bootswraps_wrapsbandages/ultraflex-no-bow-quick-wraps/
I think those would be easy, since their all in one, but I'm worried about wrapping them wrong. But I want to know which would offer better protection. He has never banged him self up too bad in the trailer, not really done it at all, My BO and I just think now that it is a little more serious than we thought, that I need to protect him all I can. I don't trailer him much at all, about 4-5 times average a year, but you never know when I will need to. Which do you guys recommend and why?

We used to use the wraps, but now use shipping boots...we trailer a lot. The boots are quick and easy and can't come undone. When Bogie went down in our trailer, the boots sure saved his legs.
I was always afraid the shipping wraps could unwind. But if you get the shipping boots, get a good pair with lots of protection.

I have a set of shipping boots in my garage. I used them probably 4 times. Want me to get some pictures?

Shipping boots protect from nicks and blows, usually from his own feet or the horse next to him, in the event they slip or scramble in the trailer during anything from an unexpected movement to a temper tantrum. The horse cutting up his own legs and feet are probably the most common type of trailering injury.
Wraps like you pictured are intended to provide tendon support for the legs. While they may also protect the shins, they don't as wrapped, protect the pastern and coronet band like shipping boots would.
It depends what kind of protection you're after. On short infrequent hauls, fatigue and tendon support don't seem to me to be the most important need. I'd say shipping boots.

I prefer boots to prevent any bang ups.

I got two sets of those for my friend's horses to ship them down to her this weekend (2hrs at the most in the trailer) and for $30 they were way nicer boots than I was expecting. She doesn't have a truck or trailer so her horses will not be trailered on a regular basis. For the occasional trip I think they will work out great. I told her they are her housewarming gift.

Gem's Mom, I looked at those on a different site and have wondered about those. I might just have to get them.
