View Full Version : Welcoming Nickers
Nothing sounds as wonderful to my ears as the welcoming nickers of my horses.
Well today I had a special treat. Willie nickered to me for the first time since he has been here when he saw me approach. :)

I go out with a cookie just about every morning just to hear my wife's horse's little whinny.

Awww, I bet that was a sweet feeling.
City nickers, well yells at me, but when Myst gives me a talk, soft or loud, I feel special.
City has a gay voice, Myst is ALL woman with her deep talk.

Awww! That's nice, isn't it- when they actually make you feel like they want to see you?
Yes, and that first time is extra special. :D

That is the best feeling. Congratulations. My old house nickered every single time he saw me. It was so special, I treasured that every day. I'm glad your boy is knowing you and loving you.
Rompy never nickers but he always comes. Sarge whinnies every time he sees anyone even the UPS Man [Lady it depends on the day we have both] or anyone who comes in the driveway. Any person he sees he thinks as a potential meal giver so he whinnies. It really is comical, that horse lives to eat and he associates people with food, I'm not sure why since we're the only ones who feed him except when we went away my father fed them. It's not like we give food to the UPS person and ask them to feed the horses. He's so funny.
I really am happy for you.

It sure does make you feel special. :)Every morning when I let the dog out Cloud will whinney and they both come over to the fence. Bones just started making this deep belly rumble just last week. I guess it took him some time to figure it out since he is much younger than Cloud. Even when we pull in the drive way around feeding time, there goes Cloud with his high pitch whinny.

Sarge sounds like Toby. If Toby thinks there is the slightest possible chance the person will have food or treats - he starts calling to them. Its funny.

That's so nice! I wish Arrow would do that, but he's the strong, silent type. He will give me a nose swipe or two to say goodbye, sometimes.

it sure does makes you feel special, missy whinnies at me, when i go down, i thought aww she loves me, then i got to thinking she all does it when i go down to feed. witch lol but still thinks she loves me.
Another thing I found out - its not just linked to food because Andrew feeds too. Toby calls to him, but Willie doesn't make a sound when he goes out there without me. :D

Awe, I bet that felt good!:)
Dakota nickers/whinnies at me pretty much everytime he sees me. He's really lovey.:) Beauty will 'talk' to me sometimes, usually in the mornings, but not as much as he does.

Charlie is the one who talks; he will whicker as he gallops up to the fence. He'll do it for me, but he really prefers to call to Deputyhound.
Prince had never talked to me in all the time that I've known him. Since he came home with me 3 weeks ago, he's started to "Whoo, hoo, hoo, hoo" whenever I drive up behind the house. Yes, he's always been happy to see me, but I know his primary love is that feed tub that appears magically after I get home...

I agree! There's not a better feeling or sound in the world as far as I'm concerned! I love hearing my horses "talk" to me when I come out! Sometimes you can't even hear it, you can just see their nostrils going which is pretty cute! Cawl & Rodeo both "talk" to me as Im walking out! I love it.
It's awesome that your horse did that for the first time since being home!!

Legacy almost always gives me a 'hello' nicker. But he talks really low, continuously, when he's really excited to see me... especially when he hasn't seen me in awhile - like he's telling me all about everything I've missed. :) Other day when I nearly left without saying hi, when I did go over to him he kept talking and talking... it was really sweet. Dix occasionally gives me a high-pitched hello from across the pasture - but Leggy's the only one who runs to me.
Pinto talks to Papa really softly when she first sees him; she does it with me on occasion. Daisy's not very talkative.
And I agree, it's definitely the best sound any animal can make. :cowboy:
