My laptop wont pick up wifi now.....It is a compaq presario f500 and the little orange light for internet wont turn blue. I dont know what to do. Its a year or so old and I got it from my cousin for school next year...:(:( If anybody might know what is wrong I could really use some advice. Remeber I am a broke 18 year old so spending a lot of money is out of the question :(....Thanks

It's hard to diagnose the problem just from your description. Have you tried to get online other places; other than at home. Just to make sure it is your laptop and not your router?
Do you still have the CD's that came with your laptop? You could try to reload the driver and see if it helps.
If not, it may be a bad NIC. Spare parts for your type of laptop are pretty affordable. You could find used NIC on ebay very reasonably.

I'm going to PM you my cell#. It will be easier to do this on the phone.

The only thing I can offer you is that my dad can do remote access and try to diagnose and it'll run probably 40-60 bucks. If that's in your budget, PM me!

Kaitlyn, how is your dad going to get in with remote access if she cannot get online?

I'm hoping it's just the driver. That I could help with over the phone. However I have a gut feeling her NIC went out. If so it will have to be replaced.

It's an internal wifi nic, right? An easy thing to check is to first make sure that it didn't get switched off. There may be a physical switch on the case somewhere, and there is a function+F# key combo that will toggle the nic on and off. Might have just gotten switched off.

Miata the wires to NIC are not hard soldered to the motherboard - NIC is removable. You just push them on.

RD gave you a good advice. It is possible, it's just turned off. :)I don't think there is an external switch though, I may be wrong...
