View Full Version : Trail riding off the property today...

We took a short ride off the property today, the first of I hope many rides exploring all the logging roads that border us to the East and North...
These are not the kind of logging roads I'm used to on state forest land; which are quite developed and rough for riding, often rip rap for surface and well used by traffic.
This is private forest, and the timber in this section is probably 10-15 years old, for the most part, and the roads are gated and have not been used much since. They're grassy and grown over, and this time of year, covered in daisies :)

Two paths diverged in a wood....

Hubby finding us on the rudimentary map we have of these roads...

And one more arriving back home... riding back across our lower property... lovely day :)

Near perfect day... filtered sun almost overcast, not too hot, not too cold. :)
Saw three deer, but didn't get any pics of them. I think that will be a fairly regular occurence...

It's very cool, and the reason we bought it! Some of these paths may need some do-it ourself maintenance to keep them open! I think we should start riding with some pruning shears and make it a habit to cut things back as we go through some of these places.
Doc - yes it is Rush... We saw them last year, I think... or the year before. Great show

Very nice, I was wondering when you would get out there exploring. Those perky ears showed you weren't the only ones enjoying the ride.

We've been trying for weeks to get out and ride... we want to ride more and enjoy this place... we've been foiled too often by bad weather or chores that need done on hubby's too-short-days-off... Today we made it. May we continue more often!

Dang it Bay still loves to go :) I'm glad for that. If he didn't have such a sunny disposition, I'd have felt bad for not retiring him. But he really does like to go, and Cyn still has to trot to keep up when he's on a roll.
Pics getting ready to go in their extra stalls... I like this better than using the cross ties. Bay looking sunny.... Cyn looking bored and annoyed ;)

Bless her heart, she's a great horse, but she's like Eeyore when it comes to getting started. Never wants to be caught, pouts and pins her ears getting ready.

That looks like a really nice place to ride.
Very pretty, WBs. I'm happy for you guys!
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I have learned that there is always pressing matters that need to be attended to. I now schedule in my horse time, I prioritize it very close to the top, and very seldom break the schedule :) But I would also be choring at such a wonderful new place, those new type chores will become accomplished, making open time for riding.
The pics of your ride look like our Waha and Craig Mountain area, beautiful! I'm so happy that you are living smack dab in the middle of it :cowboy:

You're right... riding has to be as important as the other stuff, or it will never get done. :)
And Bay needs to be built up with some consistency or it's not fair to ask him to go far. Once every three weeks does not a fit horse make.
Lots more to explore in this new place.
