After applying the keratex to Stars hooves today I decided to clip some hair while it dried. Now normally I can clip everywhere by myself except her ears. She has had to be twitched every time normally. However, today a miracle happened! I thought I would try it just to see how far she would let me go and what would you know she LOWERED her head and leaned her ear towards me. And I dont mean I just clipped the outside of her ear, I went all the way down as far as the clippers would let me. She didnt move and inch! Both ears look like a pro did them for the first time! lol I was so proud of her and just shocked. I have NEVER had a horse that I could clip all the hair out of the ears without twitching them and I have never seen it done. I almost cried I was so proud of her. She definitely got some treats afterwards. She changes and matures all the time and I can only hope things get even better.

Oh and last weekend she finally mastered walking down hill on trails without going sideways or trotting. She actually began holding her frame together and using her butt... Still working on going uphill though. She just wants to run instead of just use her hind end to walk up. Of course shes not very big either so I imagine in time when she gains more muscle she will be able to walk uphill.

But anyway, I just had to tell someone about the miracle that happened today :happydance:

Pretty cool when your dedication pays off and it all starts to come together. Good for you!

Seems like horses are more inclined to run uphill, cows prefer to run down.

Yea I agree, most horses like to run uphill. The only problem I had last weekend were the horses in front of me that wanted to walk uphill. They both are built like tanks so its light work for them. Star isnt as big so I understand how its harder for her to keep a slow steady pace on a steep incline. If I had the lead I never had a problem. I tried holding her back so we could get up the hill but it just aggrevated her so we got about half way and then got stuck behind the slow mover. We about lost all footing on one ridge that had a drop off on either side because of that. My heart leaped to my throat when I felt her sliding backwards, luckily she gathered herself up and trotted up the rest of the trail.

IU think next time I would try to get out in front so that it doesn't happen again until she learns how to walk uphill.
