national helmet awareness day

I read it's national helmet awareness day today. If you're in the market for a new helmet a few online places have theirs on sale just today. Smartpak, Dover, Beval, just to name a few.

I've been totally lazy and haven't worn a helmet in a few years. Guess today is a good day to start wearing mine again. It's a tipperary sportage and it's 5 yrs old. I'll be ordering a new one today. Other than the past 2 years I've worn a helmet every time I rode, so 18 yrs of helmet wearing. And in all those years the tipperary is by far the most comfortable helmet I've ever tried.

Why did I quit wearing one? Because I'm dumb and vain and no one else wears one in the group I ride in. I can't even convince my husband to put one on his head. At the CCTR I've been one of 4 total riders who wear a helmet out of 1000+ people there. But I value my head and whats in it so I'm going to make an effort to start wearing a helmet again.

That's wonderful. It's such a small thing that can provide a great benefit.

I wear a helmet, but always wear a show helmet (CO Wellington). The one I wear at home is looking pretty beat up and I can't remember how long I've had it. My local tack store had their annual sale today and I bought a fully vented Tipperary, so I'm glad to hear that you give it a thumbs up!

The desire to conform and pressure to do so is very strong. Good for you for breaking out of it. I had a few moments where I felt funny becuase I am usually the only one who wears a helmet riding, but I wear it like a badge of honor now. I told my friends that I need a bumper sticker that says "Real Cowboys Wear Helmets".

I don't ever plan to be astride a horse again without a helmet on my head.

Our helmets are 10% off today. I've already sold 4. I never ride a horse w out one. What's 200 bucks for my life :) shoot we have 40$ helmets. I always sigh when a parent comes in and says I want something cheap...its ur kids head. I'd happily pay 60-150 for my childs head/life. :)

Had a fun moment today joking with my sister about taking photos wearing our helmet doing every day chores in honor of the day! :D
