"trailer-in fees"!!!!!!!!!! I will never ever ever attend another equestrian event that adds this to a show or clinic. The clinic I attended this weekend had an added $25 trailer in fee. I thought just this once I'll pay it. But upon registering & pulling out my 25 clams they tell me that it's 25 bucks a day, for a two day show. I pulled out the flyer & showed them where it made mention of the $25 fee but not mention of the word "daily". Did I mention that only 4 or 5 boarders at this facility were participating & if it wasn't for "outsiders" there would be no clinic. And they still want to stick it to us.

First of all, where is occupied Kalifornia.
We have jump outs here, they charge $10 - $15 for the trailer parking if you do not rent a stall. This is for dressage shows and horse shows at the local community college. I have never participated in a clinic. Mostly because I could not afford to go and there are no trainers that I really want to go see. I tried Clinton Anderson one time just to watch and would not go again.
I paid enough for 30 days of training on my mare. Don't need to spend more.

I had a wonderful time at the clinic. But I think my conscience won't allow me to return tommorrow even though I've paid for two days. I told the gal at the clinic if I did show I'd be bringing $25 worth of pennies. She told me not to bother coming. :nono:

MW, occupied Kalifornia is that big chunk of real estate south of Oregon & north of Mexico, just west of Nevada. Occupied mostly by left-wing liberal commies & greedy clinic operators!:p

I had the privalage of payin for a stall that was left dirty by previous user and
trailer in fee at my last clinic.
Yuck. Hidden trailer in fee.
And I learned everything I already knew at the clinic also.
whoopee. :cowboy:

Bad marketing, if nothing else.
Most of the time they "discount" for the boarders what the normal clinic fee would be. Soooo, you still have the "trailer-in fee" or whatever they want to call it, but it is already marked into the price. $25/pd is ridiculous though.

Never heard of that here.
I think it's stupid.
Can someone explain to me why it cost the clinic $25 for someone to trailer their horse there?

Just another way to make money. Thereotically, it helps with insurance, or at least that is what the dressage lady tells me, that they think we will be more responsible, or at least they will KNOW who is tying to the trailer or decide that - for an extra $10 you might as well rent the stall, which is what the insurance company WANTS US to do, even if it is a flimsy little dog kennel type thing. Its guaranteed income. The dressage shows charge an "office fee" - how is that different from a "trailer fee" ?
Years ago they charged admission at the gate, $2 a person to ANY horse show. Regardless of whether or not you were hauling a trailer.

Making money is one of the main reasons facilities host clinics and shows in the first place.
They just did a poor job of packaging it.

25 a day is just a wee bit greedy. I think they could have left it at 25 for two days. Where was this clinic at, still in the bay area? I guess I shouldn't be surprised by high fees in that area.

Remali, I only speak the truth......:p VegasLady, talking to some DQ's about this subject they told me that there are dressage shows that charge $50 a day trailer fees. Makes me think I shoulda cleaned out my trailer at the facility. All I left was hoof prints in their arena!

I could see $15 a day or $25 for both days, but their daily rate is a bit high. The most I have paid was $20 and that was for an overnight with power hook-up.
OUCH!!!

Well, I don't know if dressage gouges any more than other shows. I truely get a thrill out of competing in dressage. You go one on one with the judge. The fees are clearly there on the show bill. There is a national dressage organization that some of the money goes to. And, at least with the schooling shows here, there are rarely more than 10 - 15 participants...so she has to get money someplace. The last show she had to cancel because no one sent in their entries by the deadline. Insurance, stalls, and judge is not cheap.
I don't go to big dressage shows anyway. Ours is a neighborhood deal and she is pretty decent. Used to be trailer jump out was not even an option, but she told me that if I went in the first class and left asap afterwards she would not charge me. I thought that was fair. I volunteer as a ring stewart and get free entries.

Well I guess I'm just a hick, I've never heard of such a thing. Stall rent yes, a fee to watch a clinic yes, but $25 just to drive on to the place so that you can participate! You already paid them! That's just plain BS!

I have to agree with cowgirl, once you've paid for the clinic that should be it.

Yuck, I don't like hidden fees.
When I went to Congress in Ohio a couple weekends ago, they said it was $25 to park, but they too forgot to mention daily, so it was $25 per day (3 days for us) or $70 for the entire 3 weeks. We ended up just getting the $70 one, because you could come and go with it and got better parking, and with the $25, you got crappy parking and once you left there was no coming back. My mom wasn't to impressed, trust me.

That's rediculous! I'm getting really sick of the show fees around here lately! All the english shows down here have started adding extra fees! I was ok with the $10 office/grounds fee. I understand they have to make money and especially if you run two rings and have two judges and if they open up wash racks and water too you. But lately it's getting excessive. I looked into one recently and realized I was going to spend $50 before I ever even entered a class. It was a $25 grounds fee, $10 office fee, and $5 gate fee per person.... WHAT!!!! All of that and I haven't even entered a class yet! Needless to say I didn't attend this show! I also had wanted to take some of the youngsters allong to see their first show, and it was gonna be another $5/horse for non showing horses!
I have never heard of such a charge before as well. It does seem like ita another way to bring in money. I am only guessing, but I would think these places are not getting rich from hosting a show or clinic, especially the smaller ones. I knew some folks that hosted a very large weekend trail ride every year. It was to benefit a local charity. The last time they did it, it rained heavily over the weekend and it was a nightmare getting 250 rigs out of the fields. Neighbors had to come in with tractors to gett all out. It tore up their fields that took over the whole season to recover from. So i can see a reason as to why a place may want tp charge. But the 25 per day seems excessive.

I see this all the time at the bigger show facilities but not quite that high. Just one more way for them to make some extra $ unfortunatly not everyone is the same and feel they can clean out their trailers and just leave it in the parking lot  thus the fee was added to pay someone to do clean up duty (just not right)
