The day started well enough. I stopped to pick up the Equine Senior and it was $10 off per bag if you gave them a photo of your Sr horse. So I whipped out 2 photos of Sarge and loaded 2 bags of Purina Sr into my truck. I was very pleased with myself for having the photos with me.
We get to the farm and several horses are gone, so I know the BO is riding with friends. I turn Sarge out so he can trot off some of that excess energy before the ride and see him run towards the north fence full-speed. He doesn't gallop much so I knew something was up. I came up the hill just in time to see him gallop out the open gate that I had forgotten to check
So there goes my boy, tail in the air, whinnying like a wild horse who's been penned. He's now in open desert, and he knows the trails and how to get to the road. And that's where he headed. I ran after him with the halter and lead not knowing what the heck to do. Miraculously, he stopped to call the horses on the trail and I caught up with him.
"SARGE get your $%&*@ back to the barn! "
He jumped like he'd been spurred, looked at me as if shocked, and trotted back to the barn like "No big deal."
I thought horses were supposed to lower our bloodpressure.

Oh wow, been there done that. Glad you cuaght up with him before he ended up in the road.
A couple of weeks ago I turned my horses out and my yearling figured out how to open the gate, I looked up to see 3 of my horses running out the gate! Luckily they ran straight for the hay shed, lol.:)

Glad you've got his number. :) Legacy knows when play time's done too; when I mean business, nothing good can come of annoying me further. ;)

First I have to say I'm glad you got him back and that he didn't put up to much of a fight and didn't get hurt. LOL
Next I have to say...$10 off per bag of Equine Senior!!!! :jawdrop: WOW that's a great deal. I would get bags and bags of it. LOL It runs about $14 a bag here so that would be really cheap. Is it really $$$ there for you? Do you know if that's a special going on with Purina or just your store?

Well sounds like he knows how to wake you up in the mornings and get you your excersize...:p Glad to hear he didn't get to the road.
So did you ride him today too?

Painted- It's a Purina coupon. I still have one coupon, but it says $10 off 2 50lb bags when you give the photo. I think the cashier misread the coupon, cause I know I got $20 bucks off the 2 bags. Purina Sr runs $23 a bag here, so I jumped on it.
CG- By the time I got him back to the barn for saddling the sandstorm rolled in. My BO rode up (she had seen some of the fiasco from a distance) and almost fell out of her saddle from laughing. She was trying to sternly remind me of the riders out/gate open rule when her horse peed into the wind, covering us both :o
Today should be a do-over.

That's still not to bad. How did you get the coupon? Maybe I should call Purina.

VickyLynn, you're right. I have never loved and then-wanted-to-kill anything so beautiful in my life.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I guess I needed a lesson in humility today ;)

Great story Ryder, and no you're not a moron!!! He would have looked pretty though taking off like that!!!!He wanted to ride too.
Reminds me of the time our ex race horse mare got out of the fence one day, hubs was the only one home and trying to catch her, she took off across the field ( flat open field.....................;) ) ( she's black by the way ) he thought he was watching secretariat or some other great race horse flying! From what he said she must have really been stretched out, ears back running. I laughed my bum off listening to him tell it, he had to catch sui to get her!!!

Al and his pasture mate Kody, teamed up on the poor barn helper and while Kody distracted him Al got out shortly followed by Kody. They stayed on the farm but had a great time running around. They were enjoying themselves too much to come back until the Barn owner/manager went out with a bucket of grain! If all else fails lure em in with the food bucket!!
