Hello everyone! I've recently gotten a request to foster 2 dogs currently in a shelter in Miss. that are labeled as urgent. I've agreed to do so IF I can get the dogs to me in York, PA. The first dog is a 5 year old female Collie, and the second is a 5 year old male Blood hound.

In the past year with the help of many on h.com I've managed to transport three dogs. Two from Tenn. (Mom2Rum adopted one - Kubota) and Penny, and one from W. Virginia (Shiloh). This transport will cover much of the same territory as the past two from Tenn. Both of these dogs, get along well with other animals, are UTD on vaccines, and altered. If I can get them to the Baltimore, MD / York, PA area they have foster homes waiting for them. I can travel as far south as Richmond, VA or possibly Roanoke (depending on the day) if I can get help getting them to that point.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=HORN+LAKE,+MISSISSIPPI+38637&daddr=york,+pa&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=36.985003,-83.188477&sspn=7.947194,14.150391&ie=UTF8&ll=37.457418,-83.38623&spn=7.897722,14.150391&z=6

I have help getting them from the shelter to a point probably in Tenn. I'm hopeful that with the help of the forum, I can get these pups all the way to me, and on to new and wonderful lives. If you are interested in helping please let me know via email shelsnsaus@comcast.net . I'll sit down and plan a more exact route tomorrow, and hopefully have a last day date from the shelter by than to.

Thank you!

You know I am good from NC to Roanoke or Richmond. Have you contacted Ronni? What about a Mississippi to GA route instead of through TN? We have lots of members in AL, GA, and SC. And I know at least one in the Charlotte, NC area. I can take the Northern NC to VA leg. Just get them to me anywhere in the Piedmont of NC and I can take it from there. If anyone is coming from the TN area, I have 2 large collapsible crates I need to return to Ronni (Johnswife).

I've recently heard back from Beth and she is going to try to make the whole trek to VA herself this weekend:eek: I was thinking next weekend, so I'm trying to finagle things so that I can meet her in Lexington VA. She is combining a vacation trip to visit Amy (Codyscorral) with the transport. I have a parade float to put together, transport, participate, and tear back down plus the books at work on Saturday. I'm more flexible Sunday. We are trying to hammer down the details to see if we can make it work with just the two of us tonight. I may be looking for one more person in the Lexington Va area to pick up and hour, otherwise I'll be leaving at 3 AM Sunday morning after coming off a 26 hour shift at work, and at some point working another 6 hours on Sunday! However, it looks like the pups will be arriving this weekend!

I'll repost if we can't make it work looking for more specific areas. Thanks to everyone who was willing to pitch in!

For those who have been following this. We have the transport ALMOST lined up, and a good possiblity of a home for the bloodhound already! One of the vet techs were we take the rescues to, her family is interested. I've just gotten pics and more of his story which I am copying and pasting here, for those that are interested.

FIRST EMAIL CHAIN

Check it out! I'm trying to get pictures of the hound (shels has someone asking already!!) So I called the lady who is keeping the dog and I got the whole story. Right or wrong it's just what it is.... Ms.K's daughter-in-law bought the dog for Ms.K's son 6 years ago - it was a tiny pup. Now they have a lab and a retriever as well. They just had a baby and the wife is freaking out over how big and clumsy the bloodhound is (100+lbs) and is terrified (literally) that the dog might hurt the baby (1st baby). I personally don't blame her... I personally wouldn't be that way. I had a redbone hound with MY first baby and didn't have a problem but I didn't have two other big dogs to deal with either. Anyway, Ms.K is 66 and cares for her father, who is in his 90's. She is having fits trying to take care of this dog - I had to laugh about her anti-dog hair efforts. Anyway she first talked to the pound and they mislead her until her son called the pound and realized the truth. She said he broke down in tears like she's only seen when he was a boy and his dad died. I don't know how Liz got the email and fwd'd it to me and me to shels. (You never know when someone is asking about a particular breed.) Anyway, the son is going to call me. I hope he sends pictures.

SECOND EMAIL CHAIN.

November 6, 2008 We just had a baby and feel like Arthur might accidently hurt him so we feel like we need to find Arthur a new home. Arthur is a registered bloodhound. He is up to date on all his shots and vet visits. He lives indoors with two other dogs, but he loves to be outside. He is a very friendly dog. He has a rambunctious side to him, but he does not give us much problems. What worries us is that he is a 100 pound dog that has no idea he is big. That is what we fear can get us in trouble. He is very smart and the most inquisitive dog I have ever been around. He has been a challenge but the last seven years I have been very proud to have been his owner.

This is going to be interesting, and once again I get to meet some wonderful forum friends. I missed out on meeting Mary last year as she ended up keeping Kubota. Than on Penny's transport, there was a middle person (Darkchylde) and her wonderful family that I met. That was a crazy transport as not only was I picking up Penny, I also picked up a beagle (Lincoln) and beagle mix (Noah) in Annapolis and another Shep/Chow mix (Bear). I had dogs out the wazoo on that trip, and couldn't visit long. Not to mention the detour through Jamaicaville, and getting lost trying to find the community center. There wasn't much time left to visit, but all did go well.

I had my daughter straighten up the guest room today, as it has become my seasonal clothes storage area this summer/fall (just don't open the closet:innocent:) We are ready for our guests. I've got two large crates set up. One of which is a great dane crate (hope this 100+bloodhound fits!)! Now I just need to get pics of the collie. (don't look Mary)

Good day in the mornin'! Would you look at that Arthur? Oh my he is absolutely adorable. I cannot let hubby see him, good thing he already has a home that wants him. Hubby's grandaddy raised Plathounds, one of the very few and he remembers fondly those rambunctious, intelligent animals. Plathounds are also referred to as Carolina Hounds, as they are the state dog of North Carolina!

He is a gorgeous specimen of a hound...........

Now where is the pict of the collie?

I'm waiting on it. My guess is the shelter is closed, so maybe tomorrow?

I just sent you an email, with something that might work. I also sent directions to my house since google doesn't send you to my house, it sends you to someone elses. Too many Roads with my road name on it here; go figure. Don't loose the directions to my house, and if you do, let me know ASAP map quest and google maps will take you to someone elses house and I'm not sure they'd appreciate the sudden late night appearance of a stranger with two large dogs!

If there is a problem once you get off 83, just drive straight to the rutters and call me. I can be there in 3 minutes!

I hope the bloodhound does have a home, he's a cutie. It would be great if someone takes him.

There was just a program at the school with a Canine Unit Shepherd [I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of him when he's mad! A beautiful and smart boy though!] and Search and Rescue Dogs which the Bloodhound was one of. They also had an Otter Hound [First I ever saw in Person] and a Dutch Shepherd which I had never even heard of. That couple also had Tervuran Shepherds which are beautiful. The Bloodhound had just been involved in a search the day before and they found the person. Actually the Dutch S. had been in a search too but that person had died. The Dutch is actually a dog that looks for bodies, I was petting him after and I told him that he's beautiful and I love him and I'd love to meet again but hopefully not while he was doing his job like I hope he's not out looking for me! It's amazing what these dogs do.

I really hope the Collie gets a home. I have such a weakness for Collies [and everything else but I've always loved Collies, they are so smart]. I hope she'll get a great home, looking forward to photos but then I shouldn't look because I'll fall in love and Noah says NO!

Good luck with the transport. I wish we could help but we're too far North.

;)HMMM....I am sure we can arrange a transport of a certain collie to NE PA. You might just need to tell your other dog to suck it up or his high living life style is gone. That's what I did with mine.

I wish I could but after Noah was so close to death last week he's being even more spoiled than he ever was which means he's getting his own way in EVERYTHING. I'm so worried about him I don't ever want to think that he wanted something and I didn't give it to him. He seems to be fine but who knows, he acted fine last week too 'til he collapsed then almost died. I wish so much he would let another dog come in to be his friend, I think he is missing alot and it would help my mental health [Do I have any mental health left?] too but he doesn't like other dogs. I always wish one would just show up here and he'd like it! Me and my imagination!!!!!

Ohhh, just wait until you see here. Such a beautiful girl. She needs some food, a good grooming and TLC. Beth says she's such a love! I've finally gotten some pics of her, and she is gorgeous and looks to be a purebred as well. Beth says she is definitely older than what we initially thought and a bit on the timid side, but just a sponge for attention. She said she hoped right into her front seat and kept nudging Beth's hand for attention. All right without further ado. I present to you, Pretty Girl, or Princess or Queenie. She needs a regal sounding name don't you think?
