I was home alone, sitting on the couch, eating soup. Roto (year old Daschund pup) and Lucky (10 year old terrier mutt) were playing on the other end of the couch, just kinda growling and yipping at each other, then Roto hopped down onto the floor and laid down. A couple minutes later he sprung up and growled like he was going to eat someone for breakfast. Hair bristling on his back, teeth showing, staring into the dining room.
When entering our dining room, towards the left is the door to the back yard, straight infront of you is a sliding glass door out onto the porch and to your right is the entrance to the kitchen... after which there are stairs that lead to the basement. Roto looked to his left (the back door), looked infront of him, then looked through the kitchen and growled.
I left my soup on the arm of the couch and went to investigate to see if I needed to shoot something... but Roto wouldn't follow me past the entrance to the kitchen, he just stood there, bristling. So I cautiously went to the top of the stairs and peered down them - I couldn't hear anything so I turned back to look at Roto, who immediately laid all his hair down, cocked his head to the side and wagged his tail at me before prancing back into the living room.
Well, that's interesting. So I followed him back into the livingroom... where Lucky was standing, front paws carefully placed on either side of the ceramic bowl on the arm of the couch, drinking my soup.
