Well, I'm super excited. My parents have decided to buy me a new laptop for christmas! My Dell desktop has served me well for the last 6+ years, but I really need to mobility of a laptop!
So mom has asked me which kind I would prefer... HP or Dell? Anyone have any comparisons here? I've had a dell for 6 years and have never had a problem with it, so that's where I'm leaning. But I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience in 'laptop world' with these!

Also does anyone have any good recomendations on a video camera? I want on with enough power/pixles to film horse shows/barrel races, but that's not going to break the bank.

Yikes! Can't help you much on either one- I've only had a computer for not quite 11 months.

However, I can tell you that PC World and CNet have good reviews done on many brands of computers and laptops- check out their websites.

I did that when my mom was planning on getting a laptop- I was supposed to get her Dell, lol!

Unfortunately, she has neck problems and ended up keeping her Dell. However, it wasn't a total loss, as I discovered where to go to help me find my own new computer someday! *dreams*

Here's CNet's site:

Personally, I think the CNet site's better, lol!

Whatever camera you get, get a 4GB memory card - you can take aaaaages of film!! Don't mess on with 1 GB, go straight for the bigger numbers :)
I like my little P&S camera, the Pentax Optio L40, which, if you put it in sport mode & 3200 ISO, takes pretty good action photo shots in daylight...as well as excellent little films.

As for computeryness, I dunno ... *looks at large button under computer* I thinks ours is a dell and it's pretty darn good...

Mines a Dell Laptop and besides the 2 viruses it has gotten in the past 1 1/2 yrs or so it has been good. I've had it for going on 4 yrs now I think. It's good! I'm pleased with it.

We had a Dell lap top and it died after a year and 1/2 and 2 key boards. Most people like Dell so maybe we got a bad one. This is a Toshiba, I don't know what my husband has.

I love my Dell desktop- its 9 years old and still working. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron and I've had a lot of problems with it.

My daughter got my first laptop, a Toshiba, when my husband surprised me with this one. I still miss the Toshiba.

I've had Dell computers through work and have been pleased with them. They've got a good support system as you may know. Don't know about HP laptops. I had an HP desktop and it was good. I'd take Pinky's suggestion. She knows everything about computers!
