Last year, I applied for student funding and got $3000.00 extra on loan. That was more than enough to make Mitch and I happy.

I applied this year and my expected loan amount will be $0.00. I have a job but it's not enough to cover board ($226.00/month) gas ($120.00/month) and food ($60.00/month.) I am blessed in the fact that I don't have to pay for my rent ($500.00/month) or my car insurance ($40.00/month as a 3rd driver.) I really don't want to give up on Mitch, but I might have to. I have $800.00 worth of textbooks that I can't sell, because my program decided to change nearly all the books from last year.

My biggest bump right now is that Mitch won't be caught. He's now in a smaller herd without a halter on, which makes me think that the BO can now catch him. Good for her, terrible for me. I approached him the other day with carrots and he flinched. After 5 tries of going in and out of the gate, he started to follow me around.

What should I do? Hang on for another month or so and try to break him? He's not far off. He's been saddled, bridled and sat on but not "ridden."

Have you tried Barnes and Nobles or textbooks.com for selling back books? They're going to give you better prices for them anyways, because someone somewhere is going to need it. Make sure to try textbooks.com and other sites to buy textbooks too. The used prices that my college bookstore offered were some of the new prices that textbooks.com offered, and the used was always cheaper. The used books I got were practically brand new, too. There's also new ways to rent books and online versions that you can use.

Try listing the books on Half.com I sold a ton of textbooks that way and it was easy.

Thanks. Are any of these in Canada? :p

Hmmm, not sure if they work in Canada too or not. No harm in trying, or they might be able to direct you to a website that does work out of Canada.

Or try Amazon.com, they buy books too & pay pretty well (so I've been told)

Keep trying with Mitch, even if you have to sell him he'll get a better home the more someone can do with him.

Last year I was denied student loan funding and had to appeal, it took about 3 months but I did get funding, I had maxed out on credits for an AA degree (my nursing program is a 3-year degree, minor obvious details) and I was 6 months from graduation.

That said, I have read your posts all along and I really don't feel like Mitch is the right horse for you and vice-versa. You need a horse you can saddle up and ride, Mitch needs somebody who can put work into him every day for at least two or three months. Right now both of yo are in a lose-lose situation. But, it is your decision to make, whether it is worth keeping him while you are so busy with school and money is so tight. If you lived closer I would take him for you just to see if I could straighten him out, and I am sure there are people in your area who would enjoy doing just that. Some of us like having a hard nut to crack.

In the meantime, best of luck and I hope that whatever decision you make will be the right one for you.

Thanks. :) I agree. My main problem is that I left for the whole summer. I caught him today after 4 hours of hard work and some help from friends.

My BO just told me that she's selling the place. I'm going to cut my losses and sell him. :(

You deserve a lot of credit for making that decision. It is hard to do. But I believe that there is another horse waiting for you when the right time comes.

My late Mr. Taz, the Polish Arabian, was 14 when I bought him. He was my Magic horse, and I had been through a couple others that weren't the right one for me before him. When I got him, I marvelled at how he had been around on this planet for 14 years before he found the right person, and all the htings that had gone on in my life during those years.... if I had known that Taz was out there and was going to be the amazing horse whom I found my freedom and fulfilled my spirit of adventure with... so don't give up completely, and maybe you can find some people to ride with while you are finishing college. Check around the area for stables and see if anybody can use an extra hand in exchange for some lessons.

Best of luck!

Best of luck!I found a boarding stable for $100 a month in the other direction. It's just outdoor with hay and food, but it may be worth a look. It seems dangerously cheap, but most boarding barns around here don't go above $200 for an indoor stall.

Thanks. :) I'm just completely focused on joining up with him. I got so close this morning before he turned around and ignored me completely. I got frustrated, so I left. Tomorrow is another day and another plan.
