I sold my saddle on Friday...finally! I was so stoked to have it gone and a little money in my pocket. it was a great saddle, just didn't fit my horse very well. She came over, looked at it, sat in it, measured it, and seemed to think it would fit her and her horse. She measured it to be a Full-QH...we both saw.

Anyways, I get a call today saying she tried it on her horse and it was too tight, she said she measured it and it came out to be a Semi-QH and it doesn't fit her horse at all. being the nice person I am, I said she could bring it back....and I'm bummed :( I shouldnt let her bring it back, I know...just feels like I mis-represented it or something since I listed it as a Full-QH. I don't know, I'm just go have myself a pity party :cloud:

Strange that her measurements have changed suddenly, huh?

Either way, I can see myself being the same way. So that means I'm free to say:

PUSHOVER!!! :p

;) kidding. You're just a terrific person, that's all. :)

Well, remember that when we are buying saddles, we like sellers to be good about letting us try them on the horse to be sure, so I'd just accept this as good karma going forward.

What kind of saddle is it? I'm looking to trade my FQHB in for a semi... my horses are too narrow...

Carla...I'm the worst push-over with stuff like this, I never want to make people upset. I'm really good at making my BF upset though, lol. Thanks for reminding me that I'm terrific :)

WB...yeah that's why I offered before she asked. I wish I had that option when I first bought it. I got it on ebay before I even knew much about how a western saddle should fit. I hope this counts as good karma! Selling a darn saddle is so hard!

EW...I kinda did...just a little though, not enough to really hurt :) BUT that makes it suck even more to take it back. I liked that little pad of money :(

Mercury...Ya know, when I get it back I'm going to re-measure it because I'm just not buying the Semi-QH bit. Here is the ad for it on craigslist, I changed the Gullet size to the one she measured but when I get it back I'll measure it again.

So now I have a new person interested in comming and seeing it. How should I go about it this time. Should I allow a trial period (3 days) and just hold onto the money until they've confirmed it fit or should I say all sales final, if it doesn't fit it's your responsibility to turn around and sell it. I just don't want to have it forever!

I say sell it "As Is", no refunds. It's not like it's ebay and they are going to trash your reputation if you don't take it back.

That's a bummer. I know how hard it is to sell a saddle. I also know how hard it is to find a saddle that fits just right so I can see both sides of this story. If you do give a trial period give them 24 hours. That is plenty of time for them to go home and try the saddle on their horse. That way you don't have the money burning a hole in your pocket for 3 days or turn any other interested buyers away before the saddle is returned.

Vegas, that's a great idea :) I think that's what I'll write in the next ad and what I'll tell people who inquire. I might give it 48 hours because alot of people don't keep their horses at home around here. I feel alot better, thanks guys. I actually went down on the price for this lady so maybe I'll end up getting the full price from my next buyer! Maybe it was meant to be :)

I'd ask them to bring either their horse or a metal-hanger type representation of their horse's withers to do an on-site check. Heck, if they're close and you're desperate maybe you could take the saddle to them!

As a buyer, I would certainly appreciate being able to check the saddle fit to my horse. :)

As a seller, I'd be really careful offering long return policies (even as much as a day might not be safe!). :( Remember, people are likely not to treat stuff like you would want it treated. Even a well-meaning individual can put it in the car wrong, drop it on the ground, scratch it accidently, etc. Add to that the above issues of not being able to spend the money and having to turn away possible interested parties, and you are cruising for more drama with this!

Good luck getting the saddle sold, though!!

Yeah I had one couple bring a metal representation and it would have fit their horse toa T! Too bad the guy was too big for it. Everyone has loved it when they came to see it.

I think what I'm going to do is require an IN FULL CASH deposit if they want to take it on trial. Then I will put the money aside for the 48 hour period and if I never hear from them again I have the cash, if they bring the saddle back damaged, I have the cash, if they take a week to say it doesn't fit I can say too bad...and I have the cash :) If they don't feel comfortable leaving me with cash they can'tt ake the saddle out on trial. Does that cover my bases? :)

When i got my endurance, I gave the lady a check (not always the best choice but she was 20 minutes from me) and I got 3 days. It was written down, when and how long I had and also that it had to be brought back in the exact condition it left in and I signed it.

I wouldn't mind doing it for people close to me, as in buying a saddle in this economy sucks and I have gone through MANY were talking double digits to find one that fits my watermelon short back girl.

I think that's why I still have 2 sitting in the basement :) I put the one up on ebay but said all sales final - I just didn't want it to come back.

I never realized how much selling a saddle sucks...

I have a saddle on consignment that has come back 3 times. Since its only $125 and barely broken in, its pretty frustrating.

I'm feeling your pain. Hope it goes away for you soon ;)

Bummer, but the right thing to do. What goes around comes around.
