My little 4 week old Newfie puppie has to have 3 inches of her tail amputated today. She is one of two in the litter. The other's a boy. I was petting her yesterday and noticed hair missing from the end of her tail and it felt squishy. The vet said no blood supply was getting to it. She's in perfect health otherwise and we're not sure how it happened. Maybe mom fell asleep on it. Please say a prayer that everything goes OK.

Awwww I am sorry..........good thing is that you caught it before an infection set in......and she is young so she will recover real quick and she won't remember a thing

LOL WB--that's what we were calling her yesterday. I think it's a little masculine but can't think of a girl's name that would mean "stubby".

Why can't a girl be Stubby? :)

Yay! The vet just called--Nubbin's out of surgery and it went well. We get to pick her up this afternoon!!

WB--I was thinking about that the other day. We have 2 Landseer Newfies and of course, our drafts. Someday, I going to have to get them all together to get their pictures taken. :)

Awww, poor baby. Thankfully it happened while she was young and will bounce back in no time.

Poor puppy! I'm sure she'll be fine. I had a cat, Hopscotch, who had to have her tail amputated when she was about 8. We think an owl or a hawk might have stripped the hide off her tail, poor thing.

Poor Nubbin--she's home from the hospital and I swear she was crying! She's on an antibiotic and the wrapping comes off in 3 days. The stitches should dissolve on their own.

Thank God Newfies have such long tails. Can you believe she's only 4-1/2 weeks old. She's gonna be a big one!!!!

Poor baby..She is soo cute..Look at that sweet face. I have a friend that had a solid black Newfie he was the sweetest dog. Thought he was a lap dog. LOL !! Glad her surgery went well. Wishing her a fast recovery..

Gliderider--I think all Newfies may be that way. Her mom, Reesie, is always trying to get in my lap too. They are such affectionate dogs.
