View Full Version : Quarter Sheets?

I was wondering, would a quarter sheet be needed for a horse that isn't clipped in winter? Would it be a waste of money? I haven't rode outside in the fall/winter time before, so I'm a little curious.

Right now I'd be doing light riding in an outdoor ring, probably between 25 and 30 degrees in the winter time. Possibly later in the day when the sun starts to set. My horses are both blanketed during the winter (light sheets for now, medium blankets when it goes under 20), and Fred was shivering yesterday when I was tacking him up. It's typically windy here too.

I don't think it would be a waste of money, I have considered getting one for my un-clipped horse, for at least the first part of the ride.

I really like them for warming up and cooling down. If they are used to wearing a blanket and then you go out in the cold it can be a bit of a shock but with the 1/4 sheet once they start to warm up then you can take it off so they don't get to hot and then back on when your cooling them out.
Here's the style I prefer since I get to stay warm as well :)

My daughter uses a wool quarter sheet when it is really cold to warm up and cool down. She rides in the indoor all winter.

Thanks! I'll have to go shop around for some and see what's out there.
