Diane Feinstein (D) Kalifornia, is crafting a bill to make it illegal to sell tickets to the innaguration. The tickets are distributed (free) by members of Congress/Senate. But, if you happen to get one, you would NOT be able to sell it, if you decided you wanted to.
I remember when it used to be a free country......if I had something to sell, and you wanted to buy it, we had a deal.....not anymore !

That's never been true. You can't sell your organs. You can't sell certain types of drugs. The list of things we aren't allowed to buy or sell in the US is a long one.
I think you are looking a bit hard this time, Steve. If an event is meant to be free to those who can obtain a ticket, then I don't mind someone trying to keep others from profiting from that event.

C'mon Jackie...that's riduculous and you KNOW that's not the context of what I am talking about. You're being blinded by your faith. And as for tickets...they have NEVER been on the list of banned items...until NOW.
If an event is meant to be free to those who can obtain a ticket, then I don't mind someone trying to keep others from profiting from that event.
So...if I win a set of tickets to an Aerosmith concert, (which I got for free)...I can't sell them??? You won't mind the govt telling you which ticketed events you can and can't sell?

Isn't scalping illegal? I'm not certain about that so don't shoot me. Just an honest question. Does seem like a silly thing to outlaw but the tickets are going for astronomical prices which is nuts!!!
HoustonFarrier

Depends on where you are at. Most "scalping" laws cover guys standing in front of the venue, selling tickets. But, if you have tickets to an event, and someone is willing to pay out the nose for it.....so be it. Buyer beware. I have yet to hear of someone being FORCED to pay a high price for a ticket.

I don't really have an opinion either. It seems to be a trivial thing. Although I've heard those tickets are going for more than front row at a Miley Cyrus concert!

They have, even though the tickets don't even really exist yet.

I figure if your willing to pay what they are willing to sell for....what's the big deal? Everyone is happy.
Cash ONLY !:p

OK - here's why it might be a bad idea to make it illegal to buy/sell them.
Because it might take away any recourse for someone to sue in small claims if they get ripped off on tickets that never materialize.
I don't think you can sue for breach of an illegal contract.
But then... it's taking money from fools, so I don't tend to have a lot of sympathy. :)

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: <- Blinded by my faith. I let out a snort on that one.
What?! You've got free Aerosmith tickets?!!!!!!!! When? Where? How much?! You didn't tell me that they were tickets to an important event. The federal government better darn well stay away from my right to enjoy the greatest American rock band ever. That's all I've got to say. Give me Aerosmith, or give me....
I guess I agree with you on this one. I don't think we need a law passed about inaugural tickets. It's probably already illegal to sell them and passing another law is hardly going to stop anyone. More important things to pay attention to with our economy swirling around the drain and all. :)

Well who really cares? The tickets are FREE. Why allow people to profit from such a heart-warming political event. Maybe its a security issue. They are only supposed to give away tickets to Obama fans, not disgruntled Texas farriers...I will say that I have never seen so many distrustful people as I have since Obama was elected. Everything from the world is coming to a end, to my goats are threatened by NAIS, no one is ever positive about ANYTHING. And I am the worst one to talk, usually I am little Miss Ray of Sunshine - NOT.
The poor guy isn't even in office yet and we are mad about who gets invited to his welcome party and why. If you know the guy you might get a ticket, if not, life goes on.

What if......we are right? FWIW...I feel the same now as I did when the georgia peanut famer got elected.....I was right then.
I have ALWAYS been one to question government, whether it be liberal or conservative. And I always will, despite what any pie in the sky Iowans think:p

You might want to take a deep breath, and go read what I wrote about concerning his 'welcome party"......it wasn't about who was getting invited, it was about selling tickets, and how Diane Feinstein is trying to subvert our freedoms.

So I guess you must have been all up in arms when are freedoms were subverted the past 8 years, right? It is fine and dandy to subvert our freedoms as long as it is a cause you support like your idea to install alcohol sensers on all vehicles?
There is an easier way you know? It is called SCRAM and is the alcohol senser ankle bracelet. Much cheaper and more reliable than what you are proposing. Look into it.

How is that going to stop an drunk from getting in her car at 2:00 AM and driving off and killing an innocent person?

I have had no personal freedoms subverted from me in the last 8 years, that I am aware of....other than the NAIS onslaught. And I have been railing against that in our local government meetings.

Like I said, do some research. But basically it is a bracelet that is monitored 24/7, has a GPS system option, and law enforcement can be notified immediately if any alcohol is detected. It is used more and more in probation cases where the offender is not to have any alcohol at all. Anyone that needs an alcohol detector on their car should not be drinking at all.
And what is going to stop a drunk from getting in a car not their own from doing the same thing? OR getting on a motorcycle, horse, moped or bicycle and doing the same?
HoustonFarrier

Like I said, do some research.
I did...hence the question, which you artfully dodged. The correct answer to my question of "How will it stop a drunk from getting in a car at 2:00AM and driving off"
The answer is...IT CAN'T. PERIOD.
And, if you had done YOUR research, you would see it is the SAME technology as the breathalyzer test, just uses evaporation instead of breath. Same catalytic engine...nothing new. Just added a GPS, so the cops can know where to find the dead bodies. From the MFG website...
The SCRAM bracelet measures alcohol using the same fuel cell technology used by most portable breath testing devices
Anyone that needs an alcohol detector on their car should not be drinking at all.
Nor driving....but humans being what they are......
And what is going to stop a drunk from getting in a car not their own from doing the same thing?
If EVERY car had an alcohol interlock.........problem solved, with rare exceptions.

I'll bet you are sooooo proud of yourself now...what a beacon of light and example for the rest of us. Job well done.

And going along with the title of this thread, I heard a talking head on the radio comment on a proposal that the Dems. introduced as another way for the government to pick up some more of our money: People who are living in homes that are paid for have an unfair advantage over their neighbors so should be taxed on that paid for home......I don't think that at this point the proposal is getting much discussion, but it does show the thinking process of these people, and is a sign of things to come:(

Dupek = asshole....the other blabber is something long the lines of me being a lunatic..my Polish is rusty...if I heard it spoken, I'd probably get it better. Like my German, I understand it spoken much better than the written word, as everything I learned was from speaking. Since it's been about 20 years since I've spoken Polish with anyone, allot has gone away:)

sorry Rums but this is ridiculous argument. We are all entitled to our opinions and beliefs. We don't have to agree however, we should not call someone insulting names because you don't agree.
If that was the case, there are a lot of them everyday, everywhere and we would never get anything resolved due to insults and shut down.
We need to voice our opinions in order to be heard and maybe make a importance and CHANGE!
