My trainer wants me to put Prize on it. I grind Flax now and give BOSS but this would be so much easier. No more grinding :) She gives it to all her horses and she takes the human type of it to. I think I am going to try it for myself too. www.OmegaFields.com

I have heard nothing but good things about it. I would definitely give it a shot!
On a side note, the brown flax grown in the USA or Canada does not have to be ground for horses. Just give 1-2 cups of the whole seeds a day. I've done that in the past for weight gain and never had any problems with it.

Yeah, I've been using it for a couple of years now. It's good stuff. Stays fresh very well too. I get the largest bag and only feed it to one horse so I only have to order about once a year.

I've had Gypsy on it for about 2 months now, and I think it's helping- I'll know better in the spring, lol!

HEHE !! FrogInABlender we have the same saying in our sig.
Luvs2ride I have always heard you have to grind flaxseed. Here is what Omega site had to say about why flaxseeds need to be ground? I use a small coffee grinder.
"The hard outer shell of the whole flax seed needs to be broken in order for any health benefits to be imparted to the body. Otherwise, the seeds just get passed through the body and get excreted via the bowels. So any seeds not being ground by the teeth, simply pass through."
Thanks everybody. I am going to give it a try.

One good thing about the Omega Fields is that it's stabilized, so it doesn't go rancid. I don't know how they do it, but they do. The last scoop smells as fresh as the first.

Yep, I noticed that. Don't know who's was first, but it's definitely the truth.

I started my metabolic horse on it a little over a year ago - mainly in the hopes of seeing healthier hooves. I saw good results so, after a couple months, I put the other three horses on it.
It has done phenominal things not only for everyone's coats but for hoof health. Strong hooves with a beautiful natural shine.
Their summer coats were "slick as a peeled onion" and their winter coats have a wonderful shine to them.
Nothing but good words here -- except for the big price increase last spring but so has everything else I feed gone up by a big margin.

Niko has been on it since June and it has helped alot. He had some fried hair on his back when I first got him, he is really shiny now even though he has his winter coat. His mane has grown like 5 inches since June.
I had a horse I leased on it that had String-Halt and it helped him a ton! He wasn't on it for a week or so cause I ran out and I rode him and he was off on his hind legs a little bit and I think that had a big part of it.

FrogInABlender..I don't know who was first with it either. LOL !! I just noticed to. I always worried about what I ground up I only would do 3 days worth at a time and keep it in the fridge. I am not going to miss doing that it was a bit of a pain in the beehind.
Prize is getting dandruff and his coat is looking dull. I hadn't got him up on his full dose of BOSS and home ground Flax yet but I am going to try him on Omega and most likely will end up putting all my horses on it. Once I use up the flaxseed I already have. I think I am going to get it in the 50 lb bag..
Do you all store it in the barn ? In the summer and winter ?

I keep my outside in the "barn" lol. I keep it an old cat littler bucket so I can keep a lid on it since I get the big bag.

Yes and no. Yes, the outer shell needs to be broken, but a healthy horse's teeth can do a fine job. Any shells you see in the manure are generally only the husk. Grinding increases digestibility of the inner core nutrients by about 10%. So, to get the same benefits as ground flax, you'd just need to feed 10% more daily, which, IMO, is worth it, lol.
That said, the Horseshine is a great product with lots of other goodies than just flax.

I've been using it for a year now. Charlie now has a gorgeous coat; he had no hair when I first met him 3 years ago. Stitch has turned into "Teflon Boy;" he's so slick that I almost have trouble keeping a saddle on him. Dirt just rolls off his body. Chico is sleek and shiny. Can't wait to see what it does for Prince; I'm hoping it will help with the brittle hooves he's had all his life.
I also give BOSS. I'm happy with how the boys are looking...

I keep a cat litter bucket-full in the barn and the rest in the house and just refill when needed.
