While I am at it:D, I am going to look at a horse tomorrow. He is an Appaloosa/Arabian cross, three years old not broke to ride but has been handled from birth:rolleyes:.
I tried to get some more info about the "handled from birth" but the woman was not very forthcoming. But what the heck it is not so far from my place so I might as well go look at him.
Now, what would you think that means? What does he know or not?
I just thought I would through that out here.

If she is being truthful, I bet he is super friendly, doesn't mind being caught - that kind of stuff. I'm crossing my fingers he is a cutie and the lady is being truthful. (:

She might mean imprinted? Or just that he was handled since birth. Like I could say the Thoroughbred race foals I worked with were handled since birth, the owner was there and had them halter trained in a week and being led to and from the pasture everyday.

Other people might take a more lax approach depending on their situation and I know some people don't even touch the foal, unless there is a problem, until they wean it.

I'd expect if she's handled him since birth she's at least trained him to lead and stand for grooming and the farrier and such... Potentially he'd stand tied and might know how to lunge... it all depends on what she's gotten around to, short of riding.

I have handled by colt since before he was completely out of the sac-- some people are against it while others like it.

Mine is extremely friendly and trusting and has GREAT manners. He(4 months) knows how to lead(walk, working on trot), halter, tie, pick up his feet, be touched everywhere, ground tie, stand for the farrier and vet, walk around with blankets dragging off of him, and hes totally desensitized to ropes swinging around above him, slapping the ground next to him and wrapping around his legs.

Just giving you a basis on what MY "handled from birth" foal knows. Good luck and keep us updated! Do you have any pictures of him?

Thank you for all your responses.
I actually do have a pictures but it is from when he was only a few months old. But I will take the camera tomorrow. I think he has two blue eyes.

I would take it to mean he should be friendly and used to a halter and lead at a minimum, in contrast to a foal that has been allowed to run free on acerage and not brought in until its time for training.

I'm one of those anti-imprinting people but for a different reason. I thought about imprinting one foal and noticed his mother rejecting him so I backed off, more for the mare than the foal. I left him alone until I weaned him.
