I worry about detergent residue irritating the skin. I have a quilted blanket that is the shiny nylon satiny stuff on the inside and a little more durable on the outside. I'm not too concerned at how clean it gets in the wash since it will just get dirty again. Does anyone have good results with just running it through the wash cycle w/o adding soap?

I think you can use a baby detergent but if your still worried about it just run it though a wash with warm water. Maybe some vinegar?

I send the heavy blankets out but I wash the light ones either at home or at the laundramat. I do not use any soap just cold water. They get pretty clean. I usually use a broom to sweep the hair off before I go. There is a blanket wash that you can buy that will not damage the waterproofing of the blanket.

I send mine out in the spring to be washed. I don't wash them myself. I did..... once.

There's a laundromat here in town w/the big frontloaders and they accept horseblankets. I think I'll just run it through w/o detergent and hang it in the garage to dry. Thanks everybody!

When I use the laundramat I take a clean muck tub to bring them home in because they will be drippy wet. Also, if you want to be welcomed back, take paper towels and a spray bottle and wipe out the machine.

I use Melapower from Melaleuca, best stuff there is for laundry. I usually go to the laundromat. But I have done them in the backyard with a shampoo sprayer and a hoof pick to scrub off the stuck on stuff.
