Jackie got me thinking about music, and my favorites........I have a BUNCH !
1. Aerosmith - Don't need to say anything else.
2. Boz Scaggs - silky smooth R&B. Most people don't know, but the band that Boz used to make his hit album "Silk Degrees"....later became the band "Toto"
3. George Benson - Was turned on to George by a friend I met in the Army.
4. Mozart - Kinda wierd..but I really like "Requiem"
5. Meatloaf - Ever since "Rocky Horror", I've liked his music !
6. Derek and the Dominoes (Eric Clapton) - Layla...what a song!
7. Stevie Ray Vaughn - Got turned on the SRV by a friend I knew in Germany. We used to go skeet shooting every Saturday, and we would listen to SRV while reloading shells ! LOL
8. Elvin Bishop - He didn't do much that is well known, but I liked it.
9. Jefferson (Airplane, Starship) - Really liked Grace Slick's vocals.
10. Toni Braxton - Probably the most "current" music I like :)

Hmm I like some of them, but most I haven't heard of ;). Aerosmith is probably my favorite out of all them, but the Jonas Brothers take #1 by miles XD

Wow, didn't know that. I used to LOVE Toto. Got a bunch of their albums. Saw them in concert once. Really good show.
But if you're talking R&B, you've gotta include Barry White. His voice is just incredible!

Hadn't heard much Elvin, but his brother Stephen was one of my favorites too.

Barry was indeed great.....but...he was so limited .....IOW, most of his songs sounded too much alike. I liked him, but if you take Boz Scaggs for example, and follow his carreer.....he has gone through such a huge RANGE of music. But, Barry was cooool...great "slow dance" music ;)

Around here we're eclectic. Hubby has a classical music background, so there's that.
We like The Eagles, CCR (and the Big Lebowski)
Billy Joel, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, Elton John. (good lyrics)
Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin... just to remember I used to rock :D

Some great music there, no doubt. Zep,..I didn't "get" them until I was older.
Floyd...great laser shows!
Oh.....I almost forgot....ZZTop...what a band, what a show. Saw them in concert at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. We were up in the cheap seats.....got a little....uhhh....."high" from 2nd hand "smoke"

We went to see Rush a few months ago... They're older than when I saw them in the 80s but still really good. They're just dang good musicians.
I used to go to a lot of live shows when I was young, then the pushing crowd environment started to lose it's appeal. With the popularity now of the small, outdoor assigned-seating winery-type venues, they've become fun to go to again. And yeah - we can still catch a whiff of the old smells around

I laughed so hard WB..... yup, those old smells are still around....lol.
I used to go a lot of concerts way back when....we had so much fun. One of the best shows ever was Queen, we saw them twice, they were incredible live! I miss those good ol' days! But nowadays there is just too much pushing and shoving.....so I agree, I love the smaller venues now. Saw Great White a few years ago at a small nightclub here, they're fabulous live too. In fact I saw them about a month before that awful fire that killed one of their guitar players and so many of the concert-goers. Anyway, I sure would love to see Aerosmith live! Have yet to see them.....!

OH! Another one I love is JOURNEY!
I hear they've started touring again with a new lead singer that sounds so much like Steve Perry that it's uncanny.

I heard the new guy a few months ago on the internet. He IS good.
I never saw Aerosmith either... or the Stones.
I've seen a lot of shows though... from Van Halen to the Lilith Fair hairy armpit gals. I got backstage at Judas Priest in the 80s. I have pictures! (below) Feast with Priest they called it. They didn't even hit on us. Course we didn't know at the time that Rob Halford doesn't even 'play for our team' ;).
I'm the one doin' the bunny ears on Rob. The gals are all my friends, the other dude was the drummer, I think.

Awesome idea, HF! I have been mulling around an idea for a new "enduring" thread along these lines lately. Let's use this one. The idea is to find a great video of a band on youtube, share the song here, and comment on it. Or, just share our love of music.
Check out WB with Judas Priest! Smokin' Cool!
And rocknK, I love Nugent in spite of some of his over-the-top political comments. He was an original conservationist. I've seen him a bunch of times and Great White Buffalo is the greatest conservation anthem I've ever heard.
Aerosmith is my all time favorite American rock band and there are so many great British rock bands that it's really tough. The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles are all first among equals.
OK, so here's a band that even I sometimes forget somehow when I'm recounting the greatest rock bands of all time. But they really should be in this prestigious list, every time, in my opinion.
It's the great Electric Light Orchestra with Evil Woman!

That's a good one JB!
I'll start out with Billy Joel, "DownEaster Alexa". I love good songwriting and story telling, and I think Billy Joel is among the best at painting Americana with music. I always have to stop and listen to this one.

<3 Aerosmith forever :D
4. Mozart - Kinda wierd..but I really like "Requiem"
5. Meatloaf - Ever since "Rocky Horror", I've liked his music !
Dad got me into both of them. My old alarm clock used to be the first two lines of the chorus of "Bat Out Of Hell" :D and I love his duet with Marion Raven. Dad also got me into the Eagles, I like Witchy Woman and Take It Easy.
I like a little classical...especially movie soundtracks! I like the soundtracks to LotR, Sinbad, Sweeney Todd and Chicago.

Darn right there are ;) Led Zep & Stones are awesome :D and I am a huge fan of the Beatles' psychadelic stuff. 2 of my favest ever songs are I Am The Walrus and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, both of which I sing when camping :3 loooong story...
I LOVE ELO. Mr Blue Sky is so my fave...making a video to that song .
My fave bands have to be...
McFly
The Fratellis
The Feeling
The Kaiser Chiefs
Maroon 5
Scissor Sisters
Tell me you've heard of the first 4 and I'll be impressed...perhaps not so much with McFly, but deffo with the Feeling, my ALL TIME FAVE band :D their songs give me shivers...Rosé and Join With Us are my faves.

The Band-I grew up in Woodstock when they lived and played there. I never saw them in person, I was too young but I love their music. A sad day when Rick died. Levon Helm still lives up there and is very active around town. I always tell my man if we lived in Woodstock we could go to Midnight Rambles all the time. I haven't convinced him yet. I wish I could.
The Eagles-ALWAYS in the CD Player
Van Morrison
Dr Hook
John Denver
James Taylor
Carol King
Some of Rickie Lee Jones
There are probably more and in some cases I will like a song by someone but not like everything they do. My mind is blank now. I'm thinking who is in the CD player and who I listen to on the way to and from the stable. Mostly it's The Band and The Eagles.

"So oftentimes it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key."
The Eagles from "Already Gone"
I like the line about You'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself! When someone makes me mad I will say "Well they'll be eating their lunch all by themselves"!
Already Gone is my second favorite Eagle's song, Desperado is my favorite. Oh yeah I also love Witchy Woman because that's ME! There are so many I love. We wore out The When HELL Freezes over DVD, had to get another!

Everyone has great taste. I'm a big fan of music as well and think what people love and listen to says a lot about them!! I actually don't have a lot of bands that I love, mostly solo artists and acustic-y ones at that. (interesting word there I just invented)
I'm a huge fan of the following at the moment:
Damien Rice
Jason Mraz
Lisa Hannigan, although her solo stuff hasn't grown on me yet. . .
Here is a link to Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan and Vyvienne Long performing Volcano from Damien's older album O. It was one of the first songs I heard from him many many years ago and still one of my favorites. It's certainly not a big me up kind of song!!

O I love threads about music! Wow curse me not getting home from school sooner. And as everyone already said Aerosmith Rocks
And for my favorites.....
Dumb by Nirvana
A Lifetime by Better than Ezra
Mr. Brightside by the Killers
I Hate Everything About You by Three Days Grace
Hate Me by Blue October
Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana
Angry Chair by Alice in Chains
The Nobodies by Marilyn Manson
Polly by Nirvana
Hemorrage by Fuel
Bullets with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
Chop Suy by System of the Down
People Are Strange by The Doors
She Don't Use Jelly by the Flaming Lips
Janie's Got a Gun by Aerosmith
None of those songs are in order besides Dumb by Nirvana being my favorite song
Besides the bands posted I also listen to....
Deff Leppard (my dad's favorite band)
Pearl Jam
Stone Temple Pilots
Dope
HIM
The Offspring
Carolina Liar
Korn
Blind Melon
Hole
Sublime
Nine Inch Nails
Disturbed
And Since Aerosmith has been a main band that has been discussed here I thought I would include their video to "Janie's Got a Gun" probably one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard!
YouTube - Aerosmith-Janie's Got a Gun
Disciple
Skillet
Spoken
Anberlin
Ivoryline
Emery
Tait
Lifehouse
Half of Demon Hunter (hate the other half of their songs, lol)
DC Talk
Hoobastank
The Classic Crime
However, it really depends on what mood I am in. I don't really care about the type of music. However, I do care about the lyrics so the fronts of all my cds are missing. Oh well.
