I remember an old thread like this back on H.com...
...but since so many of us have changed names...or never saw the thread...or are new, why have you chosen your username?

KittySawrus:
:S Well...my name's Katy, but my mates liked to call me Kitty...then one day I just added "Sawrus" to the end. I honestly can't remember quite how it got there...but after being told it was "awesome" by several people I decided to keep it :D
So it's my net name. I think, to date, I am the ONLY KittySawrus on the net...at least, whenever I google it I cannot find another. The closest they've come is katiesaurus :p not half as cool, lol

You next!!

mad4pinkhorses - I made that when I was like...10 and still played neopets xD. I quit neo a while back and self iced because I was spending way too much time on there :p

Pinky's good ^__^ although I did like to call you mad4, that was always a good nickname.

ETA Tatesgram! You were one of the people I wondered about :D I feel more complete now ;P loll

Most everyone knows about our beloved Jackie Brown now, right? I've memorialized him a few times, here and at the old forum. I'll tell a little bit more, though.

Jackie was a stray cocker spaniel (he's my avatar photo) that showed up at a neighbor's house. They kept him in a dog house about 50 feet behind their home and weren't ever mean to him or anything, but they just never went out to see him other than to feed and give him water.

I would see Jackie (he was Fred Flintstone at that time) when I walked our dog and Jackie would watch us walk by. It began to bother me so much that this dog never got much human attention that I introduced myself to the couple and asked if I could walk their dog for them. They looked at me rather oddly, but said OK.

We had some wonderful walks with Jackie, but then the weather turned cold (he did have a dog house to stay warm inside), so we'd go over to break the ice off of his water dish and sneak him some tasty treats. One time, when we were walking away, he let out a plaintiff yelp that said "May I come live with you?!" That was it! We had to have Jackie (who was still Fred). I offered them $100 for him and they took it!

Jackie fit right into our home and taught us so much. I'll forever be grateful to Jackie. Even though he was neglected a bit at least during part of his life (who knows what he was doing before we met him), it never dampened his enthusiasm. Jackie loved life. He also fully appreciated a good nap, a kind word, and chasing a ball around the yard. Jackie made up his own rules for games and sometimes ran back without the ball in his mouth knowing that you score just as many points in whatever game we were playing that way. It's about having fun, not whether or not you come back with the ball in your mouth!

Jackie left for the Rainbow Bridge about five years ago now. He's buried in our yard with a beautiful stone cherub watching over his grave. I'm really looking forward to seeing Jackie again and will always memorialize him by using his name as my online presence.

Here's Jackie. You can see from the expression on his face that he was a dog who loved life!

My real name is Erin but my eyes are green. Iris Green :)

Thanks, Frog. That's very kind of you to say. And I really do believe that Jackie, Scout, Shadow, Tess, Barney (those are our animals that have left so far) and all of the other departed dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, and so on will be there for us. I don't want to wish time away, but I am so looking forward to meeting up with them along with beloved human family and friends who have passed along.

Ha well if anyone didn't know ...I love grunge music (hence my avatar...kurt cobain much!)

Though I don't play any instruments and I am not an amazing singer I still love to listen to all types of music. It has kept me pretty sane the past 16 years and I had a lot of influence listening to grunge from my older cousins who used to baby sit me when I was younger. Kurt Cobain the lead singer of the grunge band Nirvana died when I was two...but I still heard I a lot about him from my cousins years later. I have always enjoyed his very poetic mysterious lyrics and his whole philsophy on life. I don't agree on the way he ended life, but enjoy what time he gave to all his fans.

JackieB it really is a wonderfull story!

Well for me; Jet Lag was my first horse and such an awsome one he was. I would have to write a small novel for his whole story but he was an abuse case when I got him - took a long time to break thru some of the issues be we had a bond that was unbreakable. He was game to try anything so when I tried the side saddle on him it was a perfect match, he really did shine in it ~ thus JetLagaside :)

When I was a star trek nut, I had gone to a 3 day event in Tacoma, Wa. I went as 1/2 Klingon, 1/2 Human, like Warfs mate. My mate was Captain Kirks wild brother, or cousin, I forget now. I was his mate/head security, and my name was Princess Vicklynn. It was pretty cool, lots of different costumes. Vicklynn stuck with me sence then.

Mandzanita was a nickname my boyfriend used to call me when we first met :) Then when I went to college, the journalism building that I spent all of my time in was called Manzanita hall (I only add the D because it corresponds with Mandi). I lived on a street called Manzanita Ln. my last year in college. Alot of my friends that don't even know each other call me Mandz. It's pretty weird.

Honestly? Over at the old forum, when I went to sign up, it said "enter user name." Ookay.. I thought this would just be what I put in to log in and then would make a separate screen name. That was the way it was at another forum I belonged to, anyway.

No such luck.

At first I was pretty mad at the whole system, but now I like just being "me." :)

Dakota Sunrise
11-12-2008, 04:39 PM
This is a cool thread!:)

I really don't have a great explanation for mine. Dakota, as you all probably know, is my first horse's name- my best friend, my partner in crime, my dream horse.:) I don't know why I put Sunrise after it, I just thought it sounded good together at the time ('the time' being when I joined the horse.com forum). But when I came to this forum everyone all ready knew me by that name and I kind of liked being called Dakota for some odd reason:innocent:, so I stuck with it.
That's my username for a lot of things, and for other forums too. Except HGS- I'm 'Beauty' there, for obvious reasons.:):D

JackieB: I loved hearing more about Jackie. I all ready knew about his career as a pilot (hehe:D), but I never knew how you two came to be such good friends. Thank you for sharing.:)

JackieB that story is so touching. You were very lucky to have each other. Such a cutie. My aunt & uncle had a Cocker Spaniel named Pricilla and she was such a great dog, she lived to be 15. It was a sad day when she left them but she had a good life.

My horse's name is Sarge so that's where my name comes from, I have 2 others but Sarge was the first of the 3 to come to me.

I don't know why but my grandmother when she was talking about a relative would always say "Our "Mary Smith"" or what ever the person's name was, she's put an "Our" in front of it. My aunt does the same thing still. I always thought that was so comical so I put an "Our" in front of Sarge's name! My e-bay name was Our Noah for awhile then I changed it because of a vicious seller I had problems with.

Anyway that's how I got my name, blame it on grandma and my aunt!

Diane of Buck's Hollow
11-12-2008, 05:00 PM
Well, at H.com I was Diane. Just like Carla, I didn't pick a name right at first. I wanted something different , like all of you sooooo.....When we moved over here to Baywind, I got to pick a name. I thought I needed to keep Diane in the name somehow, so everyone would know it was me.

Buck is my first horse and is such a big part of our lives now. We bought a new place with lots of pasture, just so we could have Buck and other horses at home with us. We named our new place "Buck's Hollow".

Diane of Buck's Hollow just seemed appropriate. :)

Also, JackieB..I did not know that story. I love it. Just a heartwarming stroy.

When Sunday's Man and I went to see Buck's Hollow for the first time, this little fluffy golden retriever (5 wks old) came runny down the hill towards us with the sweetest most beautifully kind face I have ever seen. I immediately fell in love with him. I had never "fallen in love" with a dog at first sight before..but there was something so special about him. Anyway, SM asked if he came with the farm and the answer was "yes".

Thanks JackieB for the information at h.com. I wondered where everyone went!!!

Ranger44
11-12-2008, 05:17 PM
Well, Ranger is my big yellow lab and 44 was my favorite jersey number when I played football. I never thought about it when I picked the name but since I work in natural resources some people think I am a "park ranger" but I am a "game warden" and yes there is a big difference :).

Cat
11-12-2008, 05:17 PM
I've always loved cats - large and small. Ocelots were one of my favorites and so are tigers. So they are my "jungle kitties". So along came jungle_cat, which was shortened to just Cat here.

11-12-2008, 07:24 PM
It's pretty self-explanatory. I'm Annie and then I have Dixie so Annie&Dixie. I always prefer to be called by my real name even though that still isn't Annie, Annie is just my nickname, my real name is Annelise. Anyways, even when I was Birdeye723, I always prefered to be called Annie so this way it's easier for people to call me that.

alittleoffkey
11-12-2008, 07:25 PM
I'm alittleoffkey because... well... I'm a little off key - my sense of humor, my opinions - I try to be myself in everything I do. If that means I'm not perfectly in tune with everyone else, then so be it. ;) I also love music (I play several instruments and listen to nearly every genre), so it wasn't that far of a leap.

JackieB - I absolutely adore hearing about your sweet Jackie. Everytime I hear about him I think about my Papa's old dog, Happy... who was very aptly named. :)

shelsnsaus
11-12-2008, 07:31 PM
Shelsnsaus. It was a nick name growing up. My name is Michelle, and my father called me Shels and Sauce. My sister was Valerie, and my father called her Val Parmesan. Its been my internet name nearly everywhere cause I can remember it. Its not a weird pork dish like Hunterseat thought on h.com. I thought about changing it when I came here, but figured I'd forget who I was since I've been shelsnsaus for nearly 14 years now.

Thanks so much for the kind thoughts and words about Jackie Brown, everyone. I would say that I appreciate them more than you can know, but I'm sure you do know. My wife and I don't always talk about Jackie because for some, he would have been "just a dog". It's so wonderful to be able to socialize with others who fully understand what our beloved animals all mean to us.

You're just the greatest group of friends!

LOL WB !! :D

Well, I was sugarsgirl at h.com, and just decided to keep the name. Sugar was my old horse who just recently crossed the rainbow bridge, and so it means a litte bit more to me now then it did then.

Fjords <3
11-13-2008, 06:11 AM
Mine changed ALOT lol.

Flash of Angels Wings- my first horse's name was Flash, but, right before I joined h.com, I had to sell him. It was the hardest thing ever because we had an incredibly tight bond, but I couldnt ride him because he is blind. So that explains the "Flash" part. Angels Wings is for Angel. She'll be gone soon too so the name basically means that my horses have grown wings and taken off, away from me and to a new home.

ETA: Pics of Flash in case anyone's interested

11-13-2008, 07:29 AM
Well, I suppose my name should be self explanatory, but basically we have 6 (soon to be 7) horses, 3 dogs, a cat and rabbits. I kept trying to think of something that would include them all since they are all my babies and the only thing that really fit was menagerie! :) We're a motley crew! :p
