Opie needs a heavy weight winter blanket for when the weather gets below 0 up here in Wisconsin ( he is body clipped). Anyone have any suggestions? I was looking to spend around $100, I really can't spend $200 on a winter blanket right now.

found this one, looks like a good deal but I don't know the quality

I don't see a brand on that one, so I'd steer clear.

I'd be looking for a Weatherbeeta, Saxon or Rambo. Those are my favorite brands anyways.

Here's a real nice quality Saxon for the same price

LOL He loves blankets.. just not slinkies.. his blanket is hot pink right now LOL his mid-weight one is green.

The black slinky is now dead, like all the rest..

Well.. he figured out how to work the velcro on his chin off.. then he figured out how to carefully unzip it.. then he wiggled out of it.. then he ate it..

But his OTHER blanket stayed on the whole time...

He is too smart. You are going to have your hands full Veronica. I can't wait to hear some of your stories with him.

He likes Jolly balls and other toys. Smart is good when you're dealing with cow horses lol

Haha that's cute, Hopi does that too with a barrel. Or if a cat, chicken, goose or dog comes into the pasture she'll chase them like that.

lol no wonder he has a complex. I'll be sure to make his color something bright and girly ;)

did someone else strip him? I had a horse do that to rowdy this winter. It was on him nice and snugg. the next day i found it on the ground with all the buckles and velcro still the way I left it. his paddock buddy pulled him right out of it lol

I have a couple jolly balls and i want to get that big stacey westfall ball. Rowdy could care less about the jolly ball, he lets the dog steal it and watches her play with it.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. i really appreciate it. i so far like the Saxon. It looks heavy duty enough, and will keep him warm.

I get mine off ebay. There is a seller in TX that has great blankets. I don't know the brand but I bought one last year and it was great. They are around $60 with shipping. I ended up getting two more for my others guys. They are 400g poly fill so are pretty warm, and 1600 denier. If not I usually go with weatherbeeta or maybe a saxon(but my mare shreaded hers last year). Both the weatherbeeta and saxon got shreaded.

I like those Saxon blankets, a friend of mine has used them for 3 years on her horses while mine have torn up and destroyed one blanket per wither apiece. I will personally be replacing my old (and oft-mended) blankets with the Saxon blankets. I really like the neck piece, the way it is all one with the rest of the blanket.
