I think I am going to have it sent to my fiance's house and not see it until Christmas. I pretty much pick all of my presents out...my grandparents really don't have a clue:D so I just pick them out! But I am waiting on this one! It's not that far away!

Good deal!
Just be aware that those flat Crosbys give you very little support for your leg. It will be like riding bareback with stirrups ;).
Also, the underside padding is really smooshed, so I would use a good thick pad to help cushion your horse's back. Either real sheepskin, 3/4" wool felt western pad, or some other pad that's shock absorbing.
Good buy!

I figure with having flat flaps it will help me learn to ride better. I was kinda mad it didn't have pads, but then I want to learn to ride better, so I figure it will help! I hope it is as nice as it looks in the pics!

One thing about older Crosby's, the channel seems to be extremely narrow and tend to not fit most horses. Not trying to burst a bubble or anything, but that's why I stay away from them. I hope it fits your horse, though.

Hmmm...i hope it fits too! I will be soo mad it it does not! we have no saddle shops around here either, so I pretty much have to buy one offline!

There's an easy way to tell from pictures! Get a wire coat hangar and straighten out a 16" piece. Shape it to his withers/sides 2" BEHIND the back edge of his shoulder blade (3 fingers width). Carefully remove and trace this on a big sheet of paper or side of a box.
Get a ruler and a protractor (you can print out a paper protractor online, just google: Protractor Print Out), and follow the directions on this document. It really works!

Now, the channel down the the length of the saddle still might be too narrow, but if you're not riding in it a long time and you use a good pad, it shouldn't bother your horse any. Check his back after every ride for soreness.

Hmmm...If my old saddle sells I am for sure going to get a better pad. All I have right now is just a quilted pad. I am confused on what you said. I think it sound like it will fit him ok. My friend where he is boarded at is into English more than Western, so she can help me too! I sure hope this fits. I am soooo excited!

So, what if i would put a half pad over my basic pad and under the saddle. Would that help it fit better.
One like this:

I don't know about making it fit better. If it's a tight fit, then it will be worse. But if it's a loose/wide fit without a pad, then a half pad will help cushion his back better from the hard underside of the saddle.

Ah, gotcha. Sounds like I will just have to hope and pray it either fits or is just a hair too wide!

If it just fits nicely, or is only a tad wide, you could dig out the credit card for a ThinLine pad. They are only 1/4" thick, so they won't change your saddle fit, but they are REALLY shock absorbing. I have two of them of different sizes that I won't ride without! The Contour Pad (http://www.aretesaddlery.com/tack/thinline-pads/english-pads/thinline-contour-pad/prod_65.html) would probably be the right size/shape for this new saddle.

As much as I would love to get a nice pad like that, I just can't afford it right now. What are some cheaper alternatives to that? I am in college and can't spend too much. I am hoping to sell my other English saddle to get him a turnout blanket, new girth and new saddle pad.

I sure hope it fits!! Congrats on a great find! I guess if it doesn't you can always re-sell it and possibly make a profit on it if you got it for such a good price? That would allow you to get another saddle and a nice pad! Lets just hope it fits so you don't have to deal with trying to sell it.

Me too! I hope it is ok. I am having a hard enough time trying to sell the one I have that doesn't fit!

Thanks Guys! I am still debating on a pad to get him so it won't hurt him since the padding is a little smooshed!

Do you have the saddle yet? You need to see how it fits before you can decide on a pad.
