I was driving home on Tuesday and out from the woods popped "Marygold". She came from nowhere and looked as if she had been there for a while. First I just looked, then backed up and looked at her again. She just stood there waiting. She was so sweet.

I asked her if she were lost, she looked up at me again. I asked her if she needed help, and she put her paw up. I then got out of the car and asked if I could look. She just sat there and gave me her paw. There were sand spurs (stickers) in her paw and I removed them one by one. She just looked so grateful and sweet. She looked as if she needed a friend and safe place to be. I then asked if she wanted to come with me. She sat a second, glanced back behind her and said yes. So, I put her in my car and drove her home. She needed a bath and also needed some advantix (sp?). Which I had both. I gave her a nice place on the porch to rest and offered her some food, which she didn't want. She just wanted to sleep in a safe place. She must have slept for 6 hours or more. She pressed her head up against the lattice work on the porch, when she awoke she had a lattice type impression in her hair. :( She obviously had been bred, most likely more than once. Can't tell her age, but will have the vet check if nobody looks for her.

My husband called the neighbors and one had seen her about week before about a mile down the street. She was in his back pasture, with the same sweet face. But he didn't offer to help her. Just noticed. I have been checking the lost and found ads anywhere and everywhere I can.

In our neighborhood we have a lot of dogs that just get dumped. Most of the neighbors have at least one of these dogs. :) Maybe it will be our turn to have Marygold live with us. She likes her new name by the way. My dogs like her too.

She looks so much happier and healthier after having a safe place to rest, bath, and a good meal. She did eat by the way. :) Not sure if she will want to say, or if someone will come for her, but either way... it is a pleasure having her around.

I wonder...

She doesn't look skinny, like she's been on her own. Maybe she's a wanderer, and you'll find out who lost her. I'm glad you took care of her, in any case.:)

Oh no.... not a beagle! :D

I guarantee she put her nose down and when she picked it up, it was days and miles from where she started and she has no idea how she got there.

She is probably just lost, I'd keep looking for some attempt to find her.

If you keep her, you'll love her, except when she makes that sound.... whenever she's hungry, whenever she is on the wrong side of a door, whenever she catches scent of something... whenever she just has something she'd like to express. She will break in and gorge on any food or garbage that is left within her reach, whether you think it's good eats or not. :p

And you'd better plan on fencing her in well if you want to keep her... and put good ID tags on her with your phone number. Your neighbors may end up bringing her home to you a few times even with your best efforts... She will do it again.

Every time there's an opportunity.

She is adorable... It would be wonderful if you could keep her, given her home isn't found.. :)

She's cute. I have a Beagle too. He goes on walk-abouts but he always knows where I am. He sticks around. He sure does like food though & rolling in 'stuff'.

Thanks for the warning. Honestly, if there is a family that is missing her, I hope we find them. And yes her face is what made me stop. Got me. I was like on a monopoly board. Cannot pass go without checking her first. :)

We're not fencing her in, she can come or go when outside, but with it being so cold right now, she is sleeping on the couch. We had a slight problem with ticks. Advantix and tweezers work great. My neighbor and I worked on her and she seems to be good now.

As for sounds... so far... there hasn't hardly been a peep. Just so darn sweet and appreciative of anything you do for her. Wonder how long that will last? hmmmm.

Anyway, I will keep you posted if her family is found. If not, Welcome Home Marygold. ;)

Well, hounds all roam and track things, it's what they were bred to do... so whether you're holding her for a hopeful family or keeping her, you may want to keep her contained somehow, or she will go walkabout again (once she's rested) and be lost.

Just sayin is all :)

I will heed it. As for fencing her in, we only have a small fence around the front of the house. So, time will tell on that. So far, she is happy to be here, and I agree she may have let her nose take her away from home. But she could have been dumped too. Which may be sad, but around here it could be true. Right now she is making friends with my husband. She likes him quite a bit. A mutual feeling I think :).

Oh she does love to roll around in the grass. http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/images/styles/beige/icons/icon11.png
