Well I know Halloween is over, but it took me a while to finish this video and I didn't want to post all the pics until it was done. Even though it's a little late, I figured you guys would still like to see her costume and her new talent!:D (I know this is the second video i've posted this week- sorry!:o)

Pics first.:cowboy:

Meet Miss America!:D

Her lovely pink "evening gown" is actually a table cloth that I got at the dollar store.:p Then I took some silver Christmas garland with sparkly stars on it and sewed it all along edges (I HATE sewing!!!! I stabbed myself with the needle three times!). The fluffy things on her legs are actually fancy little girl pony tail holders. The white sash around her neck has "Miss America" written on it.:p I don't know where I got the crown, I've had it for a long time.:innocent: Go figure.

She always acts like royalty--and thinks she should be treated as such:rolleyes:--so I thought dressing her up as a Queen made sense. Then I got the idea for Miss America, like in the Beauty pagents.:D

So now on to her new found talent! (if you can call it that, lol).

I have clips from a few different days in the video, but her new "talent" is the inhand jumping parts. She is actually very good at it when she wants to be!;) Our record is approximately 2'4"- the highest she's ever jumped. We tried it a few months ago undersaddle, and she made an effort but knocked the pole. So this was the first time she successfully went that high.:) Sometimes she'll fly right over everything, and other times she feels the need to refuse, no matter how tiny a jump. She just does it to annoy me I think.:D:p

Note- we were pretty much just having fun on the days when these video clips were taken. I was giving her a break from schooling and doing stuff like circles, transitions, whoa excersises, flexing, etc. The only time I was really concentrating on schooling her is the few trotting clips when I'm in the yellow t-shirt (but not the jumping parts, that was just us goofing off:D). Just wondering... how do I look when we're trotting? Her gait used to be soooo rough and she bounced me all over the place, which made me feel like a terrible rider. But I've finally A.) gotten used to it and B.) taught her the concept of "easy trot". So I was just wondering how my equitation was looking now.:)

Ok, I'll shut up now!:p Here's the video! Hope you like. xD

I know you didn't ask but I wanted to suggest that when she refuses in jumping and especially if she tries to run around it, stop her and back her up to before the jump then turn in a small circle and ask again. Try to never let her dodge out bcause they learn quickly that they can. You wouldn't believe the wonders this method has done on all the lesson horses I've seen. They learn quickly refusing and dodging isn't very good to do. :)

Cute video :)

Oh my gosh! That costume is fantastic. What did your family think?!

I will say though that it's a good thing that you didn't dress Dakota up like that. We'd have been in court for years and you would have lost everything to him. You think he's treated like royalty by you now, just try a get up like that and see what you have to do!

PoniesRock101: thanks so much!:D

Gypsy Rose: Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.:) And we were having fun.:) I got a little frustrated when she refused that tiny little jump 6 times in a row when she had just cleared the 2' one easily a few days before, but hey, that's how we roll!:D  :p

luv2show: Thanks, Ashley!:D I would love to see a video of Tanner jumping!:)

Stalknndashadows: Thanks for the advice, I'll definately give it a try.:)

.... I hope no one is getting the idea that she hates jumping or anything.. I just put the refusals in the video because I thought it was funny, she's cleared the same jumps many times before on different days. Sometimes she flies right over them with no problem at all, and other times she feels the need to refuse. She's little Miss Attitude after all, so it's normal for her.:p

valleyrider: thanks so much!:)

JackieB: actually my family never saw the costume on her, or any of the pics. I did tell my dad that I was dressing her up (this was prior to Halloween), but that's it, except for when he saw me sewing the garland on and laughed at me (it was a sad display- I can't sew:rolleyes:). My mom forgot about it, and my bro never cared or even knew in the first place, lol.

I'd never put pink on Dakota! It's not his color!:p

I completely understand. You gotta love it when they do it. :) Was hoping the tip could be of some use to someone.

Hey have you tried a tie down on her for when ur barrel racing. She looks like she noses out sometimes. It will help plus might make her smoother.Just saying but u 2 still looking great as always.I don't think that's necessarily the way to go about a horse 'nosing out.' I know Beauty is new to barrel racing and still learning, so it's not expected for her to be a pro yet. ;) I also think slapping some equipment just covers up the problem, as soon as you take that equipment off, what do you have? A horse that's nosing out - the same problem you started with, the horse didn't really learn anything, but to use that equipment to it's advantage...problem is, without that equipment, your back to the start. It would be like saying a horse needs a martingale while they're learning to jump because it could use that extra help with balancing. Well, in my opinion, the horse is new to jumping and obviously it's going to have a few issues to overcome, but practice does make perfect and that will all come in time and training. If you were to just put a martingale on, sure it could help, but what do you have when you take off the martingale? A horse who has no idea how to balance itself! Lol, obviously that's no good. To sum what I'm saying up, I guess I just wouldn't want to rely on a piece of equipment for my horse to perform as she/he should. Also I'm not saying there is a problem at all, as I said in the first few sentences, Beauty's new to barrel racing as far as I know. I hope none of that came off as rude, I just stumbled across your post and figured I would add my two cents in, lol.

vicklynn: Thanks so much.:) (((HUGS))) back. :D

Kowgirlkate: hehe, thank ya.:)

prissy18: Her old owners used to barrel race her, and I heard she was good at it, but then they neglected her and ignored her for a year, and she forgot a lot of what she'd known. Now I'm re-training her, so she's kind of new to barrels in a way. We actually haven't done any pattern work in a while. We've been concentrating on transitions, whoaing excersises, flexing and bending, cirlces/figure eights, etc.
Anyway, her old owners always did ride her in a tie down. I've ridden her with and without one, and she is better with it on. But I don't like to use one on her all the time because I don't want to have to depend on it. I never put one on her when we're jumping, or trail riding. Sometimes I will when we're schooling, because she has a really bad habbit of tossing her head, and one of these days she's going to nail me right in the face.
I've had people swear by tie downs and tell me to put one on her, and others who say don't do it. I have mixed feelings on the subject.
(I hope none of that sound rude, it wasn't intended to be.:) Thanks for the compliment too.:D)

PaintedDreamer_0110: Thank ya.:) And as for what I feed her to make her that stocky? Not too much! She is a tank and pretty much looks at food and gains weight. My horses (and two little Pgymy goats, sometimes a few others) share a bale and a haf of hay a day. She also gets 2 handfulls of soaked beetpulp, her viatamin/mineral supplement mix (which is just a small scoop, like an ounce or so) and a handful of Kota's 12% grain to give it a good flavor (she won't eat it otherwise) every morning.
