Rogue:
lately he has been challenging me by flipping head at me and walking forward at me while I was trying to lunge him (like he was threatening to rear at me or run me over), Rearing while leading, being pushy, and biting.
On Saturday (1/8/2010), I asked my barn owner to help me. For her, he is very well behaved (she use to work and show young stud colts).
Here is her lunging him:

She has shown me some good tips and suggestions to keep him moving. We do still have some difficulties when we first start but he eventually gives up and listens. I have been trying to get out and lunge him everyday and end on a good note.
I have also started putting a half-breed bridle on them and lunging them with it on. He is very quiet and gives him something more to think about then just being a crazy man. We also hook up the line that hooks to the cinch, through the bit and then back up through the gullet. It is very loose but if it does bump him lightly it teaches him to give lightly to the bit. (picks to show the set up are below)
You will also see the stud chain on him. I have had to resort to that lately to keep his attention. I don't plan on using it all the time. Just until I can get the upper hand :)

WOW someone is hitting a growth spurt! He looks all wonky!! LOL
I'm glad he's getting better. He'll eventually adjust to northern inside life.

It was a battle at first but I eventually felt him take a deep breath and relax. It was amazing. He would just drop his head and go, Just by voice commands. I took a pic without a saddle. look at his butt.. :P I don't think its directly to his side but pretty dang close...
There is a mare in that stall right next to his tie. He can touch her with his nose. He is a good boy when he wants lol

His butt is SO HIGH!!! No wonder he looks all weird in the tack lol

Sweet. I think just about every young horse is in a growth spurt. QT's is also butt high right now. Not good for the show right now. Hopefully in April she will be evened out again.

I think they take that stuff into consideration for the young ones... a lot of shows have the age groups broken up.

I know its been forever since I have last posted about the boys. I have been so busy with working them and trying to work myself. They have come a long way.
Rogue- Some of you may know from facebook that he was gelded on 2/15. He started getting some very studdy behavior- Rearing and biting, which we are still working on. But he is a great worker. He loves to lunge. I could lunge him for over an hour and he still doesn't even break a sweat. I have leaned over him in the saddle but havn't swung my leg over yet. I have his head turned the whole time, so if he does try and bolt he can't go very far. He doesn't try and bite the saddle at all though. He use to get a funny look in his eye when i would step up but that has gotten better, he has calmed down. I do not want to get him into the habit of rearing while mounting.
Rowdy- He is a very lazy boy. Took me a lot of work to get that horse to lope. He has tried jumping the round pen and ramming into it to see if he can get out of lunging. I am to the point with him now that I have gotten on his back and walked him in tight circles.
Here are some videos and pictures that I thought u would enjoy. I am sorry the videos are dark. The light right above the round pen went out :(
Current standings with the boys:
Rogue-
900#
14 hands at the shoulder and 15 hands at the butt lol
Rowdy-
800#
14 hands at the shoulder and 14.1 at the butt

The boys have started their riding! Rogue has currently had 3 rides on him. He is the more cautious of the 2. He would rather stand there at first until u really convince him he needs to move. Rowdy on the other hand will move right out but if u ask him something hes unsure about he will test u. They both have been super good, so well behaved.
