I'll be watching. I'm interested to know how I'm doing.

Please report. I, fortunately, don't have TV. Or, I'd be sitting there trying to glean some sense out of a politicians blathering, too.

I'll be watching as well. Hopefully my roommates either aren't back by then or don't fuss too much about having to watch something important for a change.

Well, if you're going to watch... at least make it fun...

I'll be skipping it. Meeting some friends for drinks.

It just doesn't matter. Few speeches by Presidents are as useless as the SOTU. I kinda wish they'd go back to the old practice of just delivering a written report to Congress, as required by the Constitution. Skip the political posturing. After last year, I'm disappointed that any of the SCOTUS are still showing up. Scalia and Alito are staying out, I think... maybe one or two others. The One's insulting speech last year should've been enough to show them they have no business being there.

Now how did you come across this? LOL

ETA:
Man, I would be totally hammered by the time President Obama was done speaking.

I don't think I've watched any SOTU address since 2002. Frankly, I'd rather have my toenails pulled out in slow motion with needlenose pliers than watch it.

No separate party seating. All mixed up this time. So we can't see who likes what. We'll be able to tell though if Pelosi does her 'Jack n the Box' act again

Ack, I missed it! My roommate and I have our own SOTU drinking game we always play :(. Oh well, I'll just have to avoid any news on it and we can make up for it Thursday after our weekly Grey's Anatomy watching party. I'm sure it will be online by then...

I like Paul Ryan, too. I went to a town hall meeting of his in August 2009 and really liked his ideas and principles. Plus, he's from WI!

How refreshing would ~that~ be? Somebody actually knowledgeable about things like "economics". Somebody that isn't totally out of his depth when there's two college graduates in the room having an intelligent conversation. Somebody that knows there's only 50 states. Somebody that won't bow to every foreign leader he meets. Somebody that was actually proud to be American ~before~ they got elected to something. Somebody that didn't have terrorists has their closest friends. Somebody that isn't ashamed to be a Christian. Somebody who... well... isn't embarrassing.

Yes, that would be nice to have again.

Well, I watched the whole thing & came away with these thoughts...What is the State of the Union? Normally these speeches are a summary of what is going on, progress & such, specifics with short & long term plans, what went wrong, what went right, that kind of stuff. I didn't see much of that.
It was more of a campaign speech. I did laugh when he said he would not sign anything with ear marks, he's said that before & he sure did sign them.
I saw Michelle with a terrible dress though the rest of her looked nice.
I thought I saw a slumped in her chair Judge Ruth. That worried me a bit.
Speeches were more fun when they sat in separate areas but this did tend to keep the applause down.
Superficial responses to a superficial speech.

I wonder if the festival seating kept the applause down, or if it was the staleness of the speech.

I wonder if the festival seating kept the applause down, or if it was the staleness of the speech.Well, it is kind of rude to stand with your a** in someone else's face while clapping in another's ear. Maybe manners came into play.

Thanks, Natisha.

I don't think it was good manners. Remember last year when Obama criticized the Supremes? The Democrats stood up and applauded, nearly in the Supreme's faces. That was the oddest thing I've ever seen at a TV political event. It had a distinctly threatening feel.

Woah... I just heard a snippet from the campaign rally last night, containing this little peek into the mind of The One:

"We will move forward together... or not at all."

Wow. I can't believe he actually let that slip out. Socialists are usually more guarded in their doublespeak. The plain meaning of that could not be more clear: No one can be allowed to rise above "the masses". Anything that "the masses" don't have, no one can have. That's the ultimate objective of the socialism: perfect fairness of outcomes. Everyone makes the same money. Everyone drives the same car. Everyone owns the same house. That's why they're so desperate to take over healthcare, because they hate that somebody might get a better doctor than somebody else.

No one can be allowed to achieve as an individual, because naturally if you "allow" people the freedom to do that, some will achieve more than others and that's not "fair". It's not "equal".

We will move forward together, or not at all. There it is. Plain for all to see.

I understand that much of his campaign rally was spent talking about "innovation"... that we need a new age of Edison... yah? And what in the world does government have to do with that? The light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison, not a government program. The automobile was developed by entrepreneurs, not a government program. The personal computer became a common household appliance through the innovative work of individuals achieving on their own, not by the edict of a government bureaucrat. It is the quiet geniuses toiling away for years in garages that change the world, not the perfumed and pampered princes in their lofty ivory towers, looking down their noses at us commoners.

We will move forward together, or not at all.

"...and the trees were all kept equal,
with hatchet, axe, and saw."

"That's the ultimate objective of the socialism: perfect fairness of outcomes. Everyone makes the same money. Everyone drives the same car. Everyone owns the same house."

Everyone but the ruling class, who appear to do quite well, historically, with socialism. At least for short stints, until they're overthrown, or suffer other unpleasant consequences. Humans playing God always fail eventually.

There was an amusing moment tonight... with Cass Sunstein testifying before some congressional committee. For those that don't know who Cass is... he's what they like to call a "fellow traveler" in the Communist Party USA. He's not just "old-school" communist... he was "old school" before "old school" was cool.

Now he's the President's Czar on Regulatory issues. Heh. Groovy. In the depths of a recession, give unbridled (note the horse reference there) total control over regulations to a known communist. Way to go.

Swell.

It was funny watching him try to testify today. I'm not sure but I think he dodged every single question.

Oh, yes of course. I guess I forgot to mention that. "The Party" is always headed up by somebody (or some group) of "special" comrades. Like our own "Dear Leader".

2 points for working in a horse-related word.

Very much a critic of Cass Sunstein, here. Of course, he is so obtuse and verbose it sometimes take me a while to figure out what I'm not liking.

Tiz

Cass Susstein is a nightmare by himself, but really anyone with that kind of power is a high negative for the country. Why pay all of those goobers in Congress, and spend all that money on elections, if they just get bypassed by regulatory czars and agencies?

Our real government isn't the elected anymore. I hope people will begin to see that.
