So this week has been intersting, not the best, but interesting. Thursday I was driving to the rec center to go swimming and i hit a deer. It was dark and I was on the highway, I was going 65 when I saw it and managed to brake a little before I hit it dead on. The deer bounced off the front of the car, thankfully it didn't go through the windshield or anything! I got a busted tank that hold the free on stuff for the ac, my radiator is only halfway connected to the engine. As for external damage, not too bad: a missing license plate (Which I found) and a couple cracks in the plastic. I think the deer is still alive, or atleast manage to leave the spot by the time I came back (it ended up on the shoulder). Anyways, I get to the rec center and the pools closed for a swim meet so I just worked out instead. Next morning my alarm doesn't wake me up on time. I wake up at 7:10 with four horses to feed and clean and a class at 8. I'm pulling hay bales out of the stack and the string snaps, I fly backwards and whack my head on the wheelbarrow. I got some whiplash so my neck is pretty sore and out. Earlier this week I drove a truck into a ditch in one of the fields at work, thankfully my bosses are super cool and I jsut got a bit of teasing, no damage done there thankfully. So, it's been a long and interesting week. Gonna take the car into a shop to get an estimate monday.

Man the deer are bad this time of the year more so than any other. I think it has to do with the sun setting earlier and the cold weather coming on. There are tons of mule deer around the barn and most of them have little to no fear of humans, so its not uncommon for them to be around the facilities munching on the hay that fell off of the tractors.
Usually when I leave the barn they are all over the valley so you have to be super careful driving out. I've had to hit the brakes many times to allow them to get out of the way.
Hope you have a good weekend to recover from all that!

Wow! You are due for a great week next week. Glad you're OK. Car deer collisions keep the body shops in business.
The deer are on the move this time of year because it is breeding season. Bucks chasing does and does chasing off last years kids.

yeah, hopefully the estimate wont be too high on the damage. Deer are bad this year, and deeer are always bountiful in Wyoming, I know a couple people who hit deer in the last couple weeks as well. Makes me wishin I had a deer grille guard for the car, or am atleast considering getting one.

Sorry about your accident Quest and your whole week. Hopefully this week will be better for you.. BTW,, the deer are in rut now so they are on the move.. And Hunting season opened(at lest here in NY). So they are moving around from that too. They are all over in places they normally don't go. So they will be in the road.. Be careful everyone.

sorry about your week, my cousin works for the fish and game, he said its better not to brake for the deer, its better just to hit it, we've had several fatal accidents here in arkansas from people swiving sp? but i thinks its reflex to brake. but anyway i hope this week is better for ya

I heard you are supposed to brake hard but not slam the brakes (though of course if it was icy, that would make a difference), if i hadnt braked a little i think the damage woulda been a lot worse since i was going 65 at the time (probably got down to about 45-50 by the time i hit it). Swerving is the worst thing to do, usually causes more damage from rollover. I never brake for the bunnies and squirrels and birds though, but deer are pretty huge! I have a SUV though, probably helped keep the deer out of my passenger seat, lol. Deer season just ended here, cant believe it just started there!

Geesh, you've had quite the week. Hopefully next week will be better! I'm glad there wasn't much damage with the deer hitting your truck and then driving the truck into the ditch. I hope your neck feels better!

The truck I drove into the ditch was a different one than the one I hit the deer with. The truck I was driving in a field and I didnt see the ditch because it was covered in tall grass, so I drove right into it, lol. Its kinda funny now since nothing was damaged. Im guessing the damage on my car(the SUV) will be in the 500-1500 range
