View Full Version : Thinking about selling some tack/horsey items

Ok, here's the deal. I have a 16.5" (I believe) Pessoa close contact saddle that is just sitting around. It doesn't fit KC and it wouldn't fit any of the lesson horses I ride here at school. I also really need the money. But, it has a lot of sentimental value as it was Heaven's saddle even before I got him.
There is an ASB at natisha's barn that I may start riding and I think it might fit him.
It is in good condition and I have pictures of it handy. I wouldn't even begin to know how much to ask for it.
I also have an English bridle with reins (that have been used like twice) that match my saddle.
And, I have three blankets (one never been used), a cooler, and a fly sheet of Heaven's. One blanket is ripped in the hindquarter area, but it could be easily fixed and I would fix it before I sold it. I do have a set of Caballo hoof boots as well, but my Mom claims that they are hers.
I also have a blanket and a cooler of KC's that no longer fit him, although the cooler would probably fit natisha's Arabian mare.
Ahh.. what to do? I really need the money, but I feel like I may regret it in the end since I am still emotionally attached to these items.

Well, I'm not sure what to tell you..... I sold some tack a few years ago.... including my Circle Y saddle.... and I really have regretted selling that saddle and wish that I had not sold it.... On the one hand the money was nice, but compared to what I got for it and the fact that it was an older saddle and really hard to find ( it was an equitation softee show saddle), I really am kicking myself now for selling it (I did sell it to a friend, but I am quite sure she will never give it up). All I can say is, weigh all the pros and cons. :)

If you absolutely have to do it to get bills paid, well, you have to do what you have to do, but I wouldn't part with the saddle otherwise.
I had a hard time even using Poppy's old blanket on Remington this winter and I was pretty upset when he decided to shred it to peices last week. :(

I agree. I'd only sell it if you really had to. I have sold two saddles now that I regret selling VERY much. It doesn't do you any harm to hold onto one, but it seems like the second you sell it is when you'll realize you need it.

I'd say only sell it if you really really need the money. I still have stuff from my horse in high school that I kept around at my parents house till I got a horse again. When I use the halters or the boots, I get to remember Belle :-)

"One blanket is ripped in the hindquarter area, but it could be easily fixed and I would fix it before I sold it." (ahh, you learn well Butterfly)
"I do have a set of Caballo hoof boots as well, but my Mom claims that they are hers."
(your Mom probably has your first bra that she claims is hers)

You should heed the advice of others here who have regretted selling a special saddle. If you sell it you'll barely remember what you spent the money on but you'll always remember that you sold that saddle. Which will allow you to sleep better?

Do without the money.:)

You can always make some money, but you can't always replace a nice, quality, older saddle. Especially if it sat on the back of your own special horse.

Well I'm famous for selling tack to pay bills, and I just recently sold one of my saddles and am about to sell another one because I really need the money. I will probably regret it later, but I wasn't emotionally attached to them like you are with your saddle. And with that in mind I have to say I agree with the others. Unless you absolutely have to I wouldn't sell your saddle, or any of Heaven's tack that means something to you.

I have decided not to sell the saddle (and instead buy a horse that fits it, jk! ;)), but I will be selling the blanket that he never wore eventually.
Thanks for your responses guys.

Glad you didn't have to sell it. Might be a western thing, but when we get a good one, we're death to part with it.

There's even a song about it.

I am glad you decided to keep the saddle.

I still have the saddle that came with Ladybird when we bought her. It's too small for any of us, but I can't seem to part with it. It's not worth much, but it has so much sentimental value to us. ;)

Chy's Circle Y will also be with us forever. It's her first "real" saddle and it will probably out last her. :)
