Today at the racetrack less than a mile from my house a 58 yr old exercize rider was killed when the mount he was riding spooked, reared, flipped over & squashed him dead. If that can happen to a pro then anything can happen to a dink like me.

Scary. My heart goes out to the rider's family and friends.

We most definately have a dangerous hobby and its sad incidents like these that remind us of it.

So sad. Prayers for his family and friends.
And yes, it could happen to any of us.

Wow that is terrible. I watched something similar happen like that when I was at a horse show when I was a kid. This girl walked her horse up to the mail box in the "trail" class and the horse freaked out... running backwards & rearing only to land right on the girl when the horse & girl flipped over. Thankfully no one was hurt but geez it was sure scary.

Prayers to the family.

Boy I know several people that that has happened to. My good friend and former boss had one rear and fall over on her and the saddle horn nearly killed her. She was careflighted out of the pasture, luckily wasn't riding alone. And my other friend had a horse rear up and over and she shattered her pelvis and wasn't supposed to ride again. (she rides for a living and she's back at it) Rearing is a very scary and dangerous thing!

Thoughts for his family. They are animals after all. I think a lot of us forget that when working with them. Even untentionally they can hurt us in an instant.

Sometimes I really wonder why we do this. It's expensive, dirty, dangerous...and oh, so wonderful. It is very scary and I feel so sorry for the rider's family. And, it does make you really think about being as careful as you can be when with these beautiful creatures.
