View Full Version : The HoneyMoon is OVER! Vicor got in TROUBLE!

I spent much of the morning wallowing in my misery in my bed, after the ibprophen(sp?) kicked in FINALLY I went outside to see if there was anything I could do to help my sister. She was working on the mares feet today. She pulled Mr.Vic out to pick his feet (He was shod before we got him so he is good to go for a few more weeks) and he was a little thrushy so I took over to wash out his feet and treat them. He kept trying to pull his foot away and bite my butt. The biting stopped when he swung around and hit my elbow (placed just right;)), the feet pulling stopped when he tried to crow hop forward and I wouldn't let go of his hoof. He almost went down on his face.
It was then I told him, the honeymoon was over, he is mine now and the "cute" baby things END... NOW!!
Since I have no tree to tie to he got tied to the solid pipe fence in his stall. Tomorrow when I hopefully have more strength we will be doing LOT'S of ground work and behavioral work. The cutesy-wootsy baby TB act is no longer allowed, he will learn to mind my space, the reason I am in pain was do to him crowding me while trying to fill his water bucket up. He will learn not to bite(very baby mouthy) and he will allow me to hold his foot for as long as I want to!!
He got a lesson in space from my sister earlier when he was crowding her as she was trying to clean his paddock. BOYS!

WB- neither did I! lol
I just saw under the posting area there is a section to attach thumbnails, butyou have to hit submit post through the thumbnail section not the "post" section... get it?
But only if you do "reply to thread" from the top of hte thread not the Quick reply.

Oh, yeah! I like that lil grey gelding. I don't have a thing for greys, but they do tend to gravitate my direction.

He is one good looking pony. Sounds like he has a lot of personality and just needs some "direction". Also sounds like you have the situation well under control.
Uh Oh, Mr. Vic - sounds like boot camp for you!
Beautiful boy, good luck with him!

Aww!! Young TB geldings can be pretty rotten!! Sounds like he is going to get better quickly! Thank goodness!!! Why they aren't taught to respect space when they are training for racing I will never understand.

Equine-woman sometimes I wonder the same thing, not every OTTB is disrespectful but I think it may have to do with wanting the horses a little more hyped up Maybe?
He is a fast learner so hopefully we won't have to hash it out very often. Under saddle he is starting to act his age, he is a head tosser! Once I get his muscles built up more I will be able to push him harder and work out his extra energy. But since he is still only 6months off his injury I am taking it easy, very very light lunging since that when his injury occured was on the lunge line. 2 -4 laps w/t each directions under saddle.
Once he build up more muscle and gets a little older (he'll be 4 in March) then I'll start really pushing him undersaddle. I'll wait until he is like 4 1/2 pushing five then I'll have his legs x-rayed and have a complete vet exam done to insure if he'll be ok for jumping, if he doesn't pass then he will stay a dressage mount. :-D
I'd like to say I am not taking any chances with him but since I was the same way with Grace and she still manged to fracture her leg, I am now more realistic about things and I know things happen I just hope they don't happen to him. I would love to have a horse for a LONG time without them incuring any major injuries, it something I have never had happen but I still think positively about him. :D

He's gorgeous! I know what you mean, that happened when I was 'working' with a little TB x colt, he started getting bolshy as he got older and if I remember my words right I looked him in the eye and said "The fluffy days are over, my pal, well over." Hehe, after that he was not allowed to barge, bite or do anything less than perfect manners - and it's stuck, a few years on he accepted tack and a rider nicely, with excellent manners. I think the saying "A good start = a good future" is pretty much right in that aspect, so long as no-one teaches them otherwise along the way =]

How old is he, Nevada is 3.5 and we are having the baby chewing, mouthy thing right now, everything has to go into his mouth! I sound like a broken record...noooo noooo gently.....no nooooo. He leans over his stable wall and sucks the blanket of his neighbour of course everyone is going "ohh sweet" but it won't be sweet when he is a grown up 17hh lump.
I have put a sign on his stable door as on Saturday I watched horrified as a toddler sized person handed him a piece of carrot and lost his arm up to the elbow:eek: luckily Nev is very gentle and after a gentle suck of offending arm spat it out....still scared me!

He is very nice looking but does needs some lessons in manners. Glad you are sending Mr. Vic to boot camp. You are doing him a big favor....who wants a big horse with no manners.
