View Full Version : REALLY crappy day at the gymkhana

Well today was the last show of the year. Cheyenne HAD to ride in all events to be able to place in the year end awards!
Here's how the day went.......
Got the horses unloaded, tacked up Ladybird, Chy tokk her to warm up, Dallas was such an idiot (buddy sour) that I had to go get Chy and have her bring Ladybird back, so I could get Dallas saddled up.
We take both horses to warm up, Dallas was being a complete terd, trying to rear up. I finally rode him in one event and made it with any bucking, but alot of head tossing.
Chy rode Ladybird in ONE event, BUT...Ladybird would not move out. She was very sluggish, we get back to the trailer, she is pawing the ground and wants to lay down, she won't eat or drink.....yep, she was colicing right there at the gymkhana. I called the vet, explained everything, was walking her and he told me to give her banamine, so hubby has to drive all the way home to get it. Meanwhile, Dallas is tied to the trailer going crazy because Ladybird is not right next to him. A 12 yr old girl goes to walk behind Dallas and he KICKS her! Got her right in the chest! Thank God she was OK, so now I have that to think about, PLUS trying to figure out what to do about Cheyenne. A trainer was there with her horses and said Chy could ride her horse for the rest of the day.
Sooo....Cheyenne rode on "Girlie" and actually placed twice! She rode that horse faster than she rides Ladybird. She did great! And was able to keep her standings for year end.
The banamine finally kicked in on Ladybird, she drank some before we left, and pooped alittle bit in the trailer on the way home. I am going out there in a few minutes to check on the old girl.
Dallas is in for a good old fashion butt whooping over the next couple of weeks!
And I believe this will be Ladybirds last gymkhana. :( It is time for her to retire from it and Cheyenne proved today, that she is ready for a faster horse. Ladybird will just be for riding around the property or trails, but we feel her gymkhana days are over. She's done what she was supposed to do.....take care of my little girl. :)
Here's some pics from today. I didn't get very many as I was busy walking Ladybird all day.
This is when we first got there.

Oh man!!! What a day!!!!!!!! I hope Ladybird is doing better!! And I hope Dallas does well in boot camp. Nothing worse than a buddy sour horse at a horse show.

Wow what a day! Buddy sour horses are such a pain! I sure hope Ladybird is doing better, was Chy upset when it happened? I'm glad you were able to find a horse for her to ride and compete on.

How does Chy feel about not gaming on Labybird anymore?

Just got back from checking Ladybird....her gut is not making much noise, and I could tell she's been rolling/laying down in the past few hours. I am going to have to check on her every hour or so through out the night. I checked poop piles and found a couple that I "think" are Ladybirds..... I forgot to lock up Dreamer tonight (we usually don't stall the horses) so I could monitor Ladybirds piles... So it's going to be a looooooooong night! :( (I did stall Dreamer this time)

How does Chy feel about not gaming on Labybird anymore?
I have talked with her in the past, but not as serious as I did today. I knew Ladybird would have to retire from gaming by the end of the year, and I figured Chy was ready to move up. Today was just the final proof. Chy has mixed emotions.....she's not happy that Ladybird can't do any more gaming, but she does want to go faster. She understands, but right now, does not have a horse of her own to ride. :(
I will be talking with the trainer about her horse and see if Chy can ride Girlie till we find a horse that will work for Cheyenne. At least she can still ride Ladybird on the trails.....for now.

That would be great if she could continue to ride Girlie, they look like a pretty good pair. Too bad she's not for sale! It sounds like Chy is handling things extremely well, she sounds very mature, she sounds like me when I was her age, I think horses help you become more mature :) At least she can still ride Ladybird around the property, that's better than not being able to ride her at all. How old is Ladybird by the way?
I hope you find the right horse for little Chy!

Oh Hon, I sure hope Ladybird is ok this morning.
I can not believe Dallas was such the idiot. I know you will work him.
I know Dallas should not of kicked that little girl, or anyone for that matter, but this is a class for parents. Teach your kids to stay away from horses butt ends.
((HUGS)) Hope for a good update today.

Especially the rear ends of horses who look really agitated.
I sure hope Ladybird is OK this morning, it sounds like she wasn't out of the woods yet last night.

What a day! (((hugs to you!))) I hope Ladybird is going to be all right. It's sad that she can't be ridden in the game classes anymore, but you're probably a proud mom because Chy is ready to move up and go faster. So will you be buying another horse now?
Sounds like Dallas needs some serious boot camp training! I'm glad the little girl who got kicked is ok, but I agree with the others- she should been taught (or watched and kept away from) to not go behind a horse too close, especially one that is already nervous that she doesn't know.
Buddy sour issues are the worst, I've been there.

Hoping for good news on Ladybird this morning. I'm glad that that trainer let Chy ride her horse. Hopefully you'll find the perfect horse for her to move up on.
And let us know how Dallas' bootcamp goes.

Well sounds like you had a very interesting day. As everyone else said, I hope that dallas straightens himself out!! Poor girl but she should have known not to walk behind a horse she didn't know. ( anyhorse for that matter ) Hope you can find a good replacement for lady bird. She has been a good dependable horse for you though from your stories!

Only good thoughts for Ladybird, poor baby. She is so cute. I really hope she is doing OK this a.m.
I hope you will find another horse for your daughter, I love that she's riding at a young age. I wish my mother let me do it.
Sorry about the kicking. I think people just don't think, they see horses at shows and think they are well behaved and do things they wouldn't think of doing when a horse is in a pasture. I know one horse who is crazy in the barn and at the horse shows he's like Mr Personality, he's like "Pet Me Pet Me, Tell me I'm beautiful" In the barn he puts his ears back if anyone dares to look at him!
Hoping for good news.

OH CG!! I'm so sorry that Lady isn't feeling so well. She has been such a good girl for you guys. I think easy trailrides is a great retirement for her, and well deserved!! That is so awesome that someone was willing to let Chey use one of their horses to finish the year!!!
Now on to the butthead!! Bring his little butt over here to me and let this big girl work out his buggies!!! He needs a major overhaul!! I know you can do it Kristy, I just don't want you to hurt your back again either. I'm serious!!

((HUGS)) Im gonna call ya and see how Ladybird is.

Waiting for news on Ladybird.. How is she doing? :( Too bad she can't run in the gymkhanas again, but I'm sure she'll enjoy spending the rest of her years as a trail horse. When are you planning on looking for another horse for Chy?

Oh my goodness that sounds like a day from the fiery south...sending prayers out for ladybird, she's such a sweet old lady. I'm so glad that little girl Dallas kicked didn't get it worse...is she bruised up? *Giving Dallas the evil eye* what a little punk. I sure hope Chy is able to use Girlie or another horse like her until you figure out how to re-arrange your bunch. Have you thought of selling Dallas?

Whew! Sorry all, been extremely busy with horses and work.....sometimes the two just don't mix. Thanks Vick for calling and checking in and letting everyone know what is going on.
Anyway, Ladybird is doing better, pooped a few times is drinking water and hungry. But she still is not herself. Vet thinks it's mostly because she is old and takes awhile to recouperate. It was a long day for her yesterday, since we were at the gymkhana when she started colicing and we didn't get her home till after 6:00 pm.
Vet got called on some emergencies so couldn't make the 4pm appt. If Ladybird was completely down he would have been out, but she is doing everything right, eating, pooping, drinking and being a bit cranky, so as long as she keeps going well through the night, the vet will be out in the morning.
Mandzanita...Nope not gonna sell Dallas. He is just a young snot right now. He is only 4 1/2. He's been off work for over a month since I wasn't able to put a saddle on him, so now he thinks he's the man! But since Ladybird won't be going to the Gymkhana's anymore, he should be different...:innocent: Right now he needs LOTS of hours in the saddle and LOTS of wet blankets. Over all he is a good boy, just gotta know how to handle him and put him in his place. Circle R may have to give him an attitude adjustment.....
And yes.....we are looking for a new horse for Cheyenne. Ladybird will be with us till the day comes to cross Rainbow Bridge, but Dreamer will probably be for sale soon. Dreamer can't do gymkhanas but can still do trail rides and probably a lesson horse. So we will be looking for a good home for her pretty soon.
Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers. Ladybird is our Golden Girl and we couldn't stand to loose her yet.

How old is Ladybird??
Ladybird is 30 yrs old. She taught my kids how to ride. She is one SWEET mare.
She is doing much better today. My vet got frustrated with me because I wanted him to come out even though Ladybird is feeling better. LOL...this is funny only because I have known this vet since I was a teenager and I usually wouldn't have him come out once my horses were in the "clear". His words..."Woman...I have never seen you fret over a horse like you do this old gal." LOL:) Well, I've never had a horse like her....and I've had LOTS of horses. :p
So she is fine now. Lots of poop, and eating and drinking.
Now...we are looking for another horse for Chy....so the search is on. Geez...I hate shopping for horses! I wanna take them all.....LOL
