I've had Jet 2 months now. The first month was basically letting her gain weight and settle in, and taking her for walks, and reliving old times around the ranch. She's been doing really well.

I started riding her last week at long last. I'd been on a few times with a bareback pad, but she's not comfortable the way Mitch is comfortable, so she definitely needs a saddle for riding, particularly since we need to do some flat work to muscle her up. I'm currently borrowing a friend's Bates Isabell Werth dressage saddle, but I think it's too big for me because I'm sliding all over the seat, and my back hurts after riding in it. I haven't even attempted a trot yet, this is all just walking around. It's got a very deep seat, and I'm not sure how comfortable I feel in it.

I'm planning to ride Jet in a western saddle, and am saving my money to get one, probably a Circle Y or one of the Abetta premier leather saddles, but in the meantime, I'd love to find a nice inexpensive synthetic Big Horn or Abetta or something to tide us over for a couple of months so we can do our conditioning in a saddle that's both comfortable for me and the black mare.

Just putting the word out if anyone knows anyone with a saddle sitting around in their barn. Jet needs a 6 1/2" - 6 3/4" tree, and I need a 16" seat. Willing to pay reasonably, and expecting to buy used, would prefer if it was under $100. Don't mind scrubbing anything up if necessary. If I can't find anything, that's cool, I'll just try and persevere with the dressage saddle, so no worries. But I figure it's worth a shot.

I found this one on my local craigslist. It looks like a big horn. You might contact them and tell them how to check.

Thanks for the leads. I'll have to do some looking into it.

I have this endurance-style saddle for sale. It won't fit any of the horses I now have.

16" seat, measures 22" from front-to-back where it sits on the horse and weighs 11 pounds.

I haven't measured the gullet but I had used it on my short-backed & young TWH, so I am guessing either 6" or 6.5". I can measure it, if you're interested in it.

I paid $150 for it and that's what I want plus shipping. I am second owner on it and it has been kept in the house its entire life.

The "sheepskin" is like brand new but it took me so long to upload one pic to Photobucket, that I only uploaded this one. I have to work today, so if you're interested, PM me and I can e-mail you more pictures when I get home from tonight:)

It's stored in the attic, which is why I set it on a bag full of old clothes when I took this picture.

Thanks for the offer, walkinthewalk, and thanks Prissy.

But I've decided to sell my dressage saddle (mine, the one that fits Mitch, not the one I'm borrowing :P) because I hardly ever use it on the pony, and prefer my western endurance saddle for him. So by selling that, I'd have enough to buy an actual saddle for Jet, and just skip the synthetic stage.

ebay...

(I know they are 15inch, but they're such good deals I had to post them)

Saw those already. 15" is too small for me. My old Abetta endurance saddle was a 15" and I should have bought a 16" because I make it look like a postage stamp to say nothing of the horse (and I'm not even a big gal at all, just looooong-legged)

I decided to just buy a leather western as it was. Once my dressage saddle sells, plus whatever I might've spent on the synthetic saddle... I'd have enough.

I recommend tacktrader.com. I have gotten other tack on there and i might have found the english saddle i had, but they always have nice tack and good prices.
