we are looking to move to wisc. sometime in the future and the places we looked at, i've noticed, have very sandy soil. the area in wisconsin that we look at is very sandy all around actually. i want to know what you guys do if you live in sandy soil areas...do you give a supplement for sand colic prevention? how do you get better grass out of the land you are on? etc... Thanks!:)

I am from Northwest WI and we don't have any sandy issues that I'm aware of. We have great green pastures (when it rains enough ;) )

I don't give anything for sand colic.

What area are you looking to moving to?

I used to live in Neenah. :) But back then I wasn't really into horses, so I didn't really take note on anything. Good luck with your search!

I love my sandy soil. It drains and dries up fast and we only have mud when it's raining.

There's advantages and disadvantages to everything. But I've not ever had a stool sample come up with any sand in it, so no - I don't feed any Sand Clear as a matter of habit.

I'm in western WI, about an hour east of the Cities. When I had my horses at home we had very sandy soil (lots of pine trees), and in the 15 years I had them at home we never had any troubles with the sandy soil, no colic, nothing. We didn't have pasture tho (altho we rented a pasture from the neighbors)...not sure how you go about growing a decent pasture on sandy soil, not sure if you really can.... But then I am no pasture expert that's for sure.....hopefully someone else will have some answers for you. But, anyway, we had no troubles from the sandy soil......there are feed supplements tho, for that.
