That no one mentioned the passing of Geraldine Ferraro, even though I was just a kid and didnt know much about politics (if I had I would have been as vehemently opposed to hers as I am to any liberal policies),I was cognizant enough to realize that her nomination as a Vice Presidential candidate was a watershed event in American politics..........Kevin
It might be an age thing. Or an awareness thing. Her passing has been noted in my circles.
She made a difference for women in politics. Took a lot of criticism - some deserved, perhaps, some not, perhaps. Although I didn't agree with many of her positions on social issues, she was well-mannered and articulate and I respected her.
My sympathies to her family and friends.

I heard about it. I didn't know much about her politics, but I thought was a very pretty and graceful lady.

The forum here is hit or miss for subjects not expected to create some controversy.
And I don't think there's a lot of controversy about Ferraro. She was a professional and a class act, even if she played for the other team :)

Also could be a lot of people on the forum lean more toward the Repub side, and she was a Democrat, she had been out of the spotlight for awhile, so perhaps not much interest generated due to that. I think each side tends to focus more on their own "team". She was definitely a Trailblazer. :)

GF was sick for a long time & her passing was expected so not much shock factor & I don't put much store into gender roles (unless I can use it to my personal advantage ;))

Did I say that no one cared? No. I did not say that or imply it. Re-read my post. I said, in a nutshell.... "perhaps not much interest generated due to that"...
No where did I imply or suggest that people didn't care. ;)
Lately it seems that people are quick to jump to conclusions here on the forum.... I don't know if it is because of cabin fever....
but maybe a break is in order. Not as fun around here any more....

It's gotten plenty of mention around the places I go. But I generally take weekends off (from the computer) and had I been online I likely would have posted it if it wasn't here already.
Ferraro has been out of the political sphere for quite a while, and lots of younger people won't likely know who she was. Sure, she batted for the other team, but she was a fundamentally good person and a class act. Sadly, not something I can say for very many left in her party.
I would love to see her party get back to where it was when it was populated by the likes of her, Scoop Jackson, Magnusson, Simon, even Wellstone, and hell... I even miss Tip O'neill. They were on the other team, but they were still fighting the right fight.
