I was at the MN HORSE EXPO with Farmers_wife and we went to the 4-H Tack Swap. I was just browsing, since I don't have a horse, when I found a beautiful Parelli Bareback Pad! I'm not a huge fan of Parelli, but I've heard that pad is an especially nice one. Plus it normally runs $264 new!! So finding one for $30 is a steal!!
Does anyone else have one? Do you like it? I love how it cinches on like a saddle and has the nice big stiff handle. I'm looking forward to riding Farmers_wife's little mare with it. I'm officially the guinea pig trying her out for her kids, so I'll have some good chances to try it out this spring. Plus, I'm riding some other ladies young buckskins, so maybe it will come in handy with them too.
I still can't believe I found it for $30!! Wow. Last year I was standing in line at that swap with a lady who found one for $100 and was so excited!

I can tell why it's more pricey then the average pad, but I'm not sure it's worth THAT much more. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm eager to see if it works as well as it looks like it would.

Wow, talk about a steal! No idea about the Parelli pads, anything that expensive sends me running to a cheaper alternative if it's feasible.
I do have a pad that does strap like a saddle and I really like it. It's just kind of uncomfortable depending on how the cinch sits, since your leg is right up against it. My only other problem is that there doesn't seem to be much wither clearence, so the front of the pad smashes down on them (and my horses are stock-built, next to no withers). So I have to watch it when I'm working with it.

Not to be a nit picker or anything, but if you put a pad on them arent they no longer bareback? So how can there be such a thing as a bareback pad? Just askin:innocent:....Kevin

BB pads are nice to ride with especially if your horse is slick.

I used to think that, but then I got Dakota and loved riding him bareback, but his withers are so bad and his topline so lean it was very uncomfortable. We're both happier using a bareback pad, and it still feels way different from having a saddle on because there's no stirrups or horn of course. So I pretend it still counts as bareback!:D :innocent:

LOL. You guys. :D I hear you about the bareback. On top of that I intent to use it with a light saddle blanket underneath. That way it will keep the bareback pad in good condition. :) I just prefer to ride without a saddle because I can feel a horse's intentions a few seconds before they try something stupid. In a saddle I feel like I'm riding blind or something. Maybe that stems from riding an arabian for so many years and then after that a bucker, but I really prefer it. Better exercise too. ;)

I have one, it's a really great bareback pad. I used to have another suede pad but it didn't use a cinch like the parelli pad. The billets are really long so use it with a little bit smaller cinch than you would use with a saddle. I tried mine with a saddle blanket once, but I prefer to use it without one. $30 is a steal, even if you hated it, you'd have no problem selling it again for three times what you paid!

Glad to hear you like it. I am excited to try it. I am watching one on ebay that is more used than this one and it's already at $120!

I want a bareback pad so badly, Samson isn't the comfiest and it's good for my leg and seat to ride bareback! $30 is amazing!!
