View Full Version : Saddle stands?
I need three. They don't need to support body weight, just keep the saddles off the ground. I like the looks of wood, but the aluminum and pipe are much less expensive. Do they hold up?
I know I'll be moving again in a year or two. Because of that, I don't want to attach anything to the wall of my shop here or I could put up some very simple ones.

I have some of the metal ones that must be 30 years old, the folding stand alone kind. They can easily hold a person's weight.

I have one of the three-tiered tall metal pipe ones. It's held up great and is pretty sturdy, but we no longer use it as a saddle rack since moving... it's become a cat jungle gym in the cat room ;)

I know you say you don't want to install anything, but the saddle "racks" in the tack room at our new place here are super nifty and don't take much for installation. They are simply a 4x4 with a hook on it, and an eye bolt connects to the wall. They just hook on and come off just that easy when you move... take them with you, eye bolts and all :)

They hold all our stuff... :)

I have all three. I think they all have the pros and cons.
I like my tier best because I can put everything on it if I had to.
Thanks.
WB - My shop is in a hillside. The lower section is poured concrete and the upper concrete block. The "one thing" the guy I'm leasing from said was that it was annoying to him that every body who comes in needs holes in different places in those concrete walls. lol He has a bit of a point.
But that idea is great and next time I'm home I'm sticking a bunch of those at the grazing association's tack shed. The full-time partner and all the people who come on to ride just put their stuff on the ground. Makes me crazy. You can't walk through there in the summer for all the gear on the floor.
I think I'll go with the metal, portable since they've held up for you guys.

Good choice, I have wood, wall and collapsable. The collapsable is the most versatile and easy.

I have two of the folding metal ones and while I am not currently using them they worked great when I was. I would think if you were moving soon they would be best but that is a personal opinion.
One of my many jobs (I'm kind of hyper) is doing light remodels on houses. I love old houses. I do it mostly in the winter when I'm off the ranch and I'm working on one right now.
I hired a gem of a guy who just wants to work a few hours a day. He does carpentry and tile work. Some friends and I have more work lined up for him when this is done, but I asked him if he would build me three saddle racks. When he's out at a friend's ranch, he can use their tools. I'll get some real nice racks and he'll have a bit more work. I'm wanting pretty plain, but we'll see what I get.
