Ok, so it's almost guaranteed that if you own a horse, you have a crazy/funny/amazing/etc... story (on a trailride, what you've seen at the barn one day, and so on). What are some stories you guys have?
One of my cool stories is when we took the horses swimming in the river (calm waters, not raging rivers!) It was so cool! I don't know if any of you have ever done that before but it is soooo cool! We swam down the river and it was so much fun. The horse I was on was so cool, while the other horses I was with were a little freaked out. Half way through, I got off and tried to reach the bottom of the river and couldn't so the horse I was riding pulled me thru the water. It was awesome!
What are some of your stories?:)

Well, just the other night i took Bronson out for a trail ride in the dark. And i was bareback. And i galloped. And it was so much FUN!!!!! Just call it one of the crazy teenager things.
And then there was the time i took Bronson out for a trail ride on new and different trails, including a stretch of galloping, in a rope halter with one lead rope (and not tied on twice).:innocent: And i was bareback too. But I must say in my defence, that while i do not have the best lateral flexion, he has an awesome stop no matter what you put on his face.:)
I have a whole slew of naughty pony stories for Toby - I will share some over the next couple days. Don't have the time to type them all now.
Should have known he was going to be a handful. See my avatar? that picture was when he was a yearling when I first met him. In fact that is pretty much the first sight I saw of him. I went around the corner and found that this little yearling was on tip-toes so he could see over the tall wall. It was very cute.

My horse Ty was a Christmas gift (BEST EVER!) and we didn't know him at all before we got him...he was a rescue. He was such a punk but know he is such a good boy! He's my Romeo!:)

When I was younger we use to ride in the mountains and at the bottom of the mountains was a small creek with many deep areas. We use to go and play in the creeks with the horses on HOT summer days. I had a horse lay down with me, saddle & all on one time! I completely freaked out! It was so fun but yet scary. Of course I bailed as she went down & as she just laid there! I guess it just felt good. Then she got up & stared at me like why are you in the water next to me & not on top of me!
Had a Morgan once that liked jumping down into the base where a silo had stood. He wasn't as good jumping back out. Had an Arab/Quarter mix gelding once the vet diagnosed with "either a severe neurological deficit or an equine psociopath." He (the horse) was just too unpredictable over a long period of time and I had to euthanize him.
I knew he had a dangerous history when I took him. Took on another one that didn't lay in the water but would hit the bank while simultaneously laying down to roll. That was a challenge, but got him out of the habit. The kids had a mare that would bump the back door of the house (front of house was yard, back opened to holding pasture) until it opened, go into living room and stare at the TV (never doo-doo'ed in there). I could go on and on. Oh, had one with a ranch job that you could not rub/pat on the neck, as in "Good job," or he'd blow up. That was hard for me to stop myself from doing. Groomed an STB that bit several people on the chin, never anywhere else. Guess he didn't like being looked at.
They are all such individuals. I love finding out each one's personality and preferences.

The funniest one was when Cheyenne was riding in a Gymkhana event. Ladybird STOPPED right in the middle of her run to go poop. chy didn't know what was going on and kept trying to push Ladybird forward. We were all laughing so hard. Finally when Ladybird was done with her business, she continued the pattern. LOL Needless to say, Cheyenne was not very happy about the whole thing.

I was walking in a pasture of 40 horses to get my horse, who was munching hay way off in a back corner. in the middle of the pasture I noticed the meanest mare in the pasture, Onyx, charging at me full tilt. I braced my feet, started yelling at her & got ready to swing the soft end of the leadrope at her, that was all I had in my hand. then Cody came charging at us too, and he cut her off & turned her away, circled around me, and ran back to his hay!
another time on a trail ride, the rider in front of me lost her hat. Cody picked it up, turned his head & handed it to me, then I was able to hand it back to the rider!
Cody usually won't let anybody catch him but me, and gets tense being handled by strangers. not freaked out, he does have good manners, but you can tell he doesn't trust strangers. where I board at, the barn owner runs a horse camp in the summer. since it was time for worming, the barn owner let the camp kids (mostly young teen girls) bring in the pasture horses. when I got to the barn Cody was tied in the barn isle with about 6 girls surrounding him, oohing & aahing, kissing and petting him, and there was Cody, nuzzling back & looking quite happy! the girls said "he is soooo sweet, he came right up to us first!" I looked at Cody eating up the attention & realized he has quite an affection for girls between the ages of 11 - 15!!!

Whoo! I love reading true pony stories :)
OK - funny is perhaps the time I was riding cross-country (practice) and I fell on my head. I was on a vaaaaairy lazy pony, who cantered, surprisingly, all the way to the jump, jumped - and stopped dead. and me, still in my forward seat, slid down his neck, landed on my head, and flipped over like a plank o' wood :)
FUNnest was the hack with Geo. My first rear :) it felt good to be able to stay on!!

Well mine isn't as happy ending as some of the stories, at least the first story!
When I was 15 I was working as a Wrangler at a camp. We brought horses in, taught kids to ride, took them on rides, arena work, overnights, etc. Well they had a rodeo every sunday and although they had quit with bucking broncs and had stuck to bulls they still had a couple of the old broncs. One of them was a mustang from Nevada (named Nevada), was about 8 years old and had just been "retrained" the spring before I worked there. I saw him standing tied one day while we were being scheduled "our" horses and said I'd take him, he looked lonely... :) then after they gave me him they told me he was a bronc....
Anyhoo I rode him all summer and while on a trail ride one day we must have stepped on a hornets ground nest. I had no clue, we were just riding along to the creek where everyone had stopped to let the horses drink. Nevada started rubbing his nose on his legs and side stepping so I hopped off as I knew something was up and as soon as I did I was covered in them, apparently they had been stinging him for a few minutes, HE NEVER REARED OR BUCKED! I took off for the creek with him in tow trying to get into the water and one of the other wranglers shooed him from behind til we got him in. But he never once acted up with all that going on. I ended up being stung 15 times, so it's hard to tell how many he got. He got a couple days off after that though!
Another episode we had together :) we were in the arena chasing a calf out, and I ended up going one way and he the other, stupid mistake on my part, I ended up hanging off the side of the saddle holding on to horn with one foot in the left side stirrup and him running full tilt around the arena, Eventually I got myself pulled up and got him stopped, but we made probably two passes around the whole arena at a gallop before I got him slowed and once again he never bucked. I have to say he took pretty good care of the girl who wasn't afraid to take a chance on him. He had heart.
