Finally got to sneak out and take some quick pics of the horses and their new blankets.

Yesterday was their first FULL day with them on and aside from a small shivering problem with Norman for a bit (thanks Vick and WB!) they seem to be doing quite well in them.

I'm SO HAPPY that I got them, and just in time, as it's been in the teens here not including the windchill.

Hi mom, what are you doing?

Is he a little more snug in his rug this morning?

It's sure good you had it. If he was cold in the blanket, he'd have been much worse off without it, don't you think?

Okay, since it's early and my mind isn't working. Is this a question? or are you saying he's more comfy in it this morning? do you think it looks better in the front than the previous pictures?

I am VERY happy that I got them. VERY happy!

They look good, so handsome in their new rugs!! Hope Norman is adjusting and his neck isnt chilly. He doing better with that?
How are those top straps. I know we talked about it. It looks like you may want to snug it up a notch though.
WB, what do you see with that?

You know the phrase.... "Snug as a bug in a rug" - I mean snug as in cozy and warm, not snug in a bad way! :)

LOL. that's what I *thought* but then again... I never know. And I know you would tell me if it looked too snug.

Thoughts on the neck? I see what Vick is saying on Norman.. should I snug it up a bit on the top strap?

You mean in the neck? I think they were tight, and we even talked about how to make an extension for them. But... and it's hard to tell for sure, it doesn't look as tight around the neck and shoulder as it was. It could be it's stretching and loosening up a little with wear. That would be good.

Those blankets do fit a little funny, I know she messed with them awhile and they still didn't seem right. They're made for a horse who is shaped like a weiner dog, I think. They're very long in the body, but not very 'deep' for their length. And a pretty skinny neck hole.

Okay. I think they are stretching. I think they look better than the first night. Those pictures just looked not right.

They might be made for horses that are IN SHAPE. Lol. Not round.

Heh...

I think they look better too. Looser in the shoulder, the gussets look more 'relaxed' now.

Go out and feel and see, but I probably wouldn't tighten it yet, you don't need it tight there, you want them to be able to move freely without feeling bound in it.

Oh and no poop so far on the backs, so the length is alright for now.

I'll go out and check again in a little bit when the kids are occupied. Oh and they LOVED the hot mash last night. LOVED it. It was pretty soupy, but they gobbled it up.

I agree. Long in length, and not in depth, small neck.
I hope they stretch some more.
I know it was pretty tight around the neck in the beginning, Im glad its not so much now.
Loves, you will know when to tighten it up, just keep the wind pipe free hon.
Love the colors!! Glad they are keeping the ponies warm!

Sometimes it's so much stress! I just get comfortable with having two horses... then I add blankets to the mix. :) Then a whole new round of questions and checking and rechecking again and again!

But I'm learning so much!! And I learned how to make a mean hot mash..which makes me pretty popular with the horses. ;)

Spoke too soon. Poop on the back. So now what?

Like how bad? To some degree, it's an outside blanket. They're going to get dirty. You can wait till it dries, or freezes and just chip it off if it's too cold to hose it.

But if the blankets are really so long that they can't get the blanket out of the way, it's something of a mess.

Is there any chance you know someone with a heavy duty sewing machine? Tack shop or blanket repair?

My mother in law has one I think. She does upholstery and works with leather, etc.? She also loves to sew. Is it possible to have her shorten them?

It's not awful. I had to really look to see it. It's on both of theirs, a bit on both sides.

OK - that happens. I wouldn't worry about it. I'll sometimes brush the blankets with a stiff horse brush, but lots of times, it solves itself.

That's what I was wondering. They're too long, and it's too late to take them back, so what about cutting them shorter.
