WB you started this all so I thought I'd add our story. With WB's kitten stories and everyone elses I started to want a kitten so badly. I haven't had a little kitten in years. Jack was our youngest at 8 months old but the others were a yr or two when they came to us. I love them all but seeing all the kittens was making me want a baby.

If all goes well we'll meet our new kitty tomorrow. This has been going on for weeks. Who thought it would be so hard to adopt a cat? I checked PetFinders and saw so many needing homes. My husband agreed to adopt another to add to our two. I am very allergic to short haired cats so I have to have a long haired one. They are harder to find in our area. Cats aren't really easy to find here since there are farms and the farmers want the cats to keep the mice down which means there aren't a real lot of strays like other places. Our shelter has all short hairs now, they only had 3 with long hair all summer and they got adopted very fast.

We missed out on those 3. My husband went there and filled out the papers but didn't put the last cat on hold and it got adopted the next a.m.. Good for the kitty, bad for us. I then found a Maine Coon mix not that far from us. I have always wanted a Maine Coon. She was trapped in a Feral Cat Colony in NJ and is now living in NY not far from us. The rescue lady's mother had a stroke so she couldn't do adoptions, that held things up for awhile. Thankfully her mother is doing better now.

Finally we decided we could meet last week then she had to call it off because she was very sick. I've talked to this woman for like 5 hrs and we still have to go meet the cat and see if we're worthy of it!!!!! Hard to believe but I know they have to be sure the cat isn't going to a whacko. Fingers crossed tomorrow will be the day we can actually get to the woman's house to meet little Molly and if she likes us then she'll be spayed and maybe will be home in the next week or two. She's not as tiny as we planned, she's 16 weeks but she is a little cute fuzz ball.

I hope my Jack and Bo will love their little sister if she is able to come here. Please everyone keep fingers crossed that #1 we get to the house tomorrow and the trip doesn't get cancelled again and #2 Molly likes us and the rescue person thinks we're OK! I swear it's as bad as adopting a kid. I'm a nervous wreck. I'll post a picture tomorrow if things go OK. Watch her hide and not come out! Fingers crossed!

I hope everything works out. She is a cutie. Our only surviving cat is our 13 year old long hair. Black and white and large. He was born in one of our closets almost 14 years ago and he has never left our sight. Quite a character. He's never met a dog he's afraid of, however, he doesn't quite know what to do with Rudy since he is totally unintimidated by him. Rudy thinks the cat is playing even when the cats claw is stuck in his lip. He just won't learn.:p

My dog loves the cats, he lays on them and licks their heads! They enjoy it. Bo had never met a dog before Noah so she wasn't sure at first but now she loves him. She was 2 when we got her from the shelter. She went from being the only animal in the house to coming to this crazy house with all we have! My first cat lived to be 17 1/2 she was mine from when she was a day old, she was the last baby I had so this might be an experience if it comes true!

We'll see what happens, this has been going on for so long I am hoping she doesn't cancel out tomorrow. Molly is very cute, she has my late cat's eyes I think that is why I keep sticking this out, I am normally very impatient and after all these false starts I would say forget it and either look for a different cat or not get any but those eyes are haunting me like they are my Misty's eyes.

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know how it goes!

She's cute! I really like Maine coon cats, I'm allergic to short hairs like you so that's probably part of the reason I like them so much. Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

Well once Molly gets spayed she'll be coming to live with us. I HOPE it will work out. She wasn't as friendly as the rescue lady led me to believe. She had to get her from behind the couch then handed her to me. She layed there but you could tell she wanted to be gone. In the one picture you can see she's hiding in my arms. My hair makes me look like Cousin Itt from the Addams Family! I wasn't sure if it was going to work or not since when she got down she went behind the couch and wouldn't come out.

2 hrs later I was able to pick her up and hold her and she seemed more relaxed, I spent most of that time swinging her feather toy around and feeding her little kitten treats. If she's that scared there I don't know what she'll be like in a new home with so many strange things happening but we're going to try it. I have a feeling I will be spending alot of time swinging a feather toy around while laying on the floor.

She's big for 16 weeks old! Jack was 8 months when we got him and he wasn't much bigger than her! I think she will be a real fun cat once she gets over being scared. She loves toys, she has a big feather toy and just goes nuts with that, stands right on her back legs. I was happy we made progress. When we got our cat Misty home she hid under the bed for a month and I was under there with her. I hope that won't happen with Molly. Molly is from a feral cat colony so that's part of the reason she's like she is. The rescue lady says she really is friendly once she gets to know a person. She loves to be brushed and will let you trim her nails etc. I'm HOPING she'll settle in here OK once she gets here.

The rescue lady is very nice. Her personal cats are all so friendly and she has the greatest German Shepherd. I was trying to kidnap him, put him in our truck and run with him! My man wasn't as fond as him as me, he's scared of big dogs but I love German Shepherds. So ANYWAY we'll have a new kitty once she's spayed. I hope that she will eat once she's here and will get along with everyone. If not we'll have to send her back and I don't want to do that because I really do love her even after only spending a few hrs with her. Those eyes are beautiful and I think she'll be really funny once she's used to us.

Oh - I'm glad you got to see her.

I've had a lot of cats who were shy with new people... I'm sure once she got to know you, she won't be so shy... but she might be a 'hide for company' kind of cat forever. Our Tweek is.

He,he! If she's part Maine Coon, she's GOING to be a lot bigger! Give her time- she'll be the big gentle giant like the one I just had to shove off the keyboard a bit ago to kep him from entirely deleting a post, lol!

He's now benind the monitor sleeping, but not before he gave me this totally wounded look trying to make me feel guilty, lol!

Looking forward to pics of your kitty in her new home!

The rescue girl has a part Maine Coon that looks alot like Molly, I didn't see him because I was in the room with Molly but my husband saw him and said he's twice as big as our cat Bo and I thought Bo was huge! I know she's a big kitten and we're guessing she will be a big cat since I know she's around Jack's size when he was 8 months old. He's not a very big cat, I think he weighs 7 or 8 lbs. Bo weighs 15, I thought that was big but according to my man her cat is HUGE! It'll be interesting to see how big Molly will get!

When I had my Misty nobody but my parents ever saw her, if she knew someone was here she'd hide or if they came in and she wasn't hidden she'd take off and they'd see a grey streak running past! Once the people left Misty would go around sniffing where ever the people were. It was comical. She hated strangers always. Jack and Bo run when the doorbell rings but they will come out after awhile. Molly will be a mystery 'til she's actually here and we see how she is. If she likes us and the other animals that's all I'm hoping for since we don't get alot of company and if we do it's OK if she hides, I just want her to be friendly with us.

Right now she's in the "rescue room" and there are no windows in that room. When she's here she'll be in our sunroom so she'll be able to look out and we have a french door to see into the kitchen so there won't be any surprises, she'll see everyone coming in and out. I think not knowing who was coming bothered her, I think she'll be better if she can see.

All the cats I've had love the computers, I don't know why but they are fascinated by them. If I use the desk top Jack likes to walk on the keys or play with the mouse, Bo does too. They both walk across the keys on the lap top.

I was surprised when we met Molly since the girl said she was so friendly. I do understand cats like her so that's why I said we'd give her a try, I'm afraid someone else wouldn't understand and would upset her even more. I hope once she gets here and knows it's her home and we'll have toys and other kitties to play with that she'll be fine. I hated to leave her behind but I'd rather she's spayed before we get her. I think coming to a new home then going to the vet for surgery would be really traumatic for her.

Thanks for your support, I will probably be back here asking for help once she's home!

The average weight for a maine coon is 13-20 pounds, so yep, she'll probably be huge! XD
