View Full Version : New Forum Feature - Like and Dislike!

Sorry for the unexpected forum shut down... We thought we might be able to install this thing on the fly but it wasn't going to work.
You will notice a new feature on the forum - LIKE and DISLIKE.
I think it's a nice way to give a poster some feedback on a particularly witty or insightful post, or a particularly loathsome one.
Let's test this out!

We thought it sounded fun! I know they've installed something like it over at HGS.
Hubby's been testing this version.... and it seemed to work OK in the test forum, but there's nothing like a live test to know if it will really work well!
So go ahead and click stuff... like and dislike... for today, no one take offense! Let's see how it works when people have liked and disliked things.

Somebody click some likes and dislikes on this post so we can see what both look like.
It does notify you of new likes/dislikes in the Notification menu...
Testing removal of dislikes...

Is this like a FaceBook feature? I don't have a FB account so I wouldn't know, but before you guys installed this I kept seeing other members saying "we really need a like button!" and I assumed they were talking about something from FB.
It is kind of cool.:)

Yeah - It's a facebook thing. People really like the "like" feature. :D

You can apparently keep track of statistics under "Community - Like/Dislike Statistics"

Can you go back and change it once you have done a like or a dislike?

I like it because I am so used to FB I am always looking for the "Like" button here since sometimes I don't want to say anything but "Like" so this is great! Now I just need to remember I don't have to hit enter to post I have to hit reply. I think the Like button is fun! Dakota it is like FB, you can just hit "Like" if you like what someone says but don't feel like commenting or if you are playing FarmVille the addictive game some of us play you hit "Like" if you have collected something from someone so you don't keep trying to collect the same thing over and over unless you are like me and I'll hit "Like" then still try to collect it. Wish I had a brain!
It would be fun if you did have a FB account so you could see some of my pictures, I don't know how to post them here, I have tried but always mess them up. Once I find the camera thingy I am going to post the boy's new stalls. I have so many pictures on there mostly of "the kids" and the barn in progress. FB is nice but this is better for horsey stuff but FB is a real good way to keep in touch with people. Well it is for me since my cousins are all over the country so with FB we can all talk where before we would maybe only talk once or twice a year now it's every day even if it is just to hit "like". This is still the best for horsey stuff though.
Can you go back and change it once you have done a like or a dislike?
Oooh, good question. Sometimes I read in a hurry, my eyes pick out a few words and I misinterpret the whole message.
Guess I will have to restrain myself from being too quick to click my opinion.

At this point there's no undo for the like.
There is a paid upgrade that would allow undo, along with some other features, but we'll see how this goes!

BTW - hubby will be playing with the formatting on this in the next few days.... moving it around, formatting it so it looks like the other buttons and belongs there...
But it will take time and he may be hitting the couch early tonight, since he got kicked and all...

Is there a way to delete the likes and dislikes after you have accumulated several pages of them? not that I'm organized or OCD or something :innocent:

Is there a way to disable the notifications of likes and dislikes? I really don't care but it shows up in my notifications.

Heh... I don't think so for that either.
Hubby will hopefully see these ??? though...

I can disable notifications, but only globally, for everyone. For users to be able to disable them individually, we would have to upgrade to the paid version of the add-on.
I don't think there's any way to remove them from your profile page.

Its not that big of a deal if people that do want them. I don't post enough for people to like or dislike me much.
